Okay I am gonna tell you a good story about why I now know that my LSU Tigers will WIN the National Championship!!!

I am in the Army and have been since April of this year. I am stationed at Ft. Benning right now and was going through Airborne School back in Oct. After 3 weeks of hard training I was preparing myself for our first jump. The weather that weekend was bad and it was still pretty windy but needless to say we still took off to soar like birds. After exiting the aircraft everything was going smoothly until about 75 ft from the ground were I noticed that my direction had changed and I was fallen at a higher rate of speed then my fella jumpers. I looked all around and determined that I was caught in a nasty crosswind that was pushing me forward and down very fast. Upon making impact with the ground I landed in a ditch, one foot in and one foot out, and with the force at which I landed I broke both my tibia and fibia at the ankle in my right leg. Having heard the "crunch" sound and feeling the burn I knew what had happened but tried to finish the mission, but was stopped by the medic. When the medic removed my boot and sock, my foot fell down from my leg as if only attached by the skin itself, which is pretty much indeed what it was as I would later find out. After the surgery and for sometime I have been questioning why something like this would happen.
See I wanted nothing more then to be an Airborne Paratrooper and defend my country against all enemies, thats all I have ever wanted and now for this to have happened was just becoming unbearable.
Now I am and will always be a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason" so I began to think and wonder what could this be, until I recieved an email from a friend, a new lifelong friend, that I was suppose to be stationed with in Italy had I completed Airborne School. In it he told me of how he had just reported to his new unti and that he was told to be ready to move out to Iraq after Christmas. Now this upset me because I want to go over there so bad and do my part but now I can not, but then I began to think that maybe there was a reason I got hurt. That night I had a dream and in this dream crutches and all I cheered OUR LSU Tigers on to Victory in the National Championship game in the Superdome. Now if my leg would not have been broken I would not have been able to attend or watch LSU win the National Championship, and for me this would be about the greatest thing that could happen for this state and for these fans. So maybe just maybe there is some method to the mayhem and maybe just maybe there are higher powers at work.

Whatever the case my be for the past few weeks I have been able to enjoy this time with my close friends and attend the Ole Miss, Ark, and will be attending the SECC before I have to report back. AND you better believe WHEN we make it to the Sugar Bowl I will be there no matter what cheering for OUR LSU TIGERS!!!

"No matter how this season ends this has been one hellva ride and a great time to hold OUR heads up high, and for those like myself that BLEED PURPLE & GOLD, it just don't get much better then this!" Crip

I'm very sorry to hear about your accident.

When you got hurt, did you use the T-10 chute or the dash 1?

What was the wind speed on the day of your jump?

At Fort Bragg, we called off jumps if the windspeed was over 15 knots per hour. We'd check the windspeed with a small weather balloon at the drop zone before every jump. We did that to minimize the kind of landing that you experienced.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I wish that they would have waited for the wind to slow down before you jumped.

Your story gives me the creeps, because I worry about an experience like yours every time I jump and every time I did jump.

Airborne all the Way. Get back to Benning and finish your five jumps ASAP so you can get your jump wings! You earned them.

I'm not real sure what the wind speed was Jean, mainly cause they wouldn't tell me after the fact, see they are trying to say that I fucked up and didn't keep my feet together and I know for a fact that I did everything to the letter! I do know this they had to give us three 10 min signs while they circled the dz waiting for the wind to die down! And we use the T-10 for all our jumps and they are from 1200 ft instead of 800 ft like they do at Bragg.

Oh and believe me if they allow me to finish and get my blood wings then I will but the doctors might not clear me to jump again casue the 10 screws and metal plate I now have in my leg are gonna stay there. So that kind of sucks.

To everyone else that posted thnak you for your words its reason like that that make me proud for the choice I have made.

Hope that your injury heals and you are able to fulfill your dream of becoming an Airborne Paratrooper. Thank you for serving our country. However, I hope your other dream comes true as well !
