http://www.freep.com/sports/lions/mitch28_20030128.htm There is one... And another.. http://www.detnews.com/2003/sports/0301/28/a01-71003.htm Sure both reports say Steve M. But still they have to toss Saban into the picture... Jeez, will these people every give up. Saban said. And I quote. "I am more committed to LSU then ever before" I guess that still means they can print crap. But hell look at Peter King.
The author of the first link you posted said that he didn't believe Saban was truly a candidate. The author of the second link mentioned Saban in one sentance, but did not say that the Lions were after him. The link you posted yesterday did not even mention Coach Saban at all. The one thing that all three of them did mention was that the Lions want Marriucci. Hell, all three of them talked more Dennis Green and Tom Coughlin.
I heard on the Tony Kornheiser (sp?) show on ESPN radio Saban would be a potential canidate IF Marriuchi (sp? again) was not interested. The person saying this was from the Detroit Newspaper and said that others would be interviewed to be politcally correct but the job was Marriuci's
Here is my take from the outside looking in. Just two weeks ago Millen said that Mornhinweg was not going to be fired. Then Marriucci was fired the following week. What could have changed in the passed two weeks other than Millen's friend bacame available? They are good friends and most likely discussed the situation with each other.
Actually I never posted a link yesterday. And the purpose of my post yesterday was to see if Sabans name would even be mentioned since he said in essence to NOT mention his name anymore since it effect recruiting. I agree Saban was simply mentioned, but I am curious why Sabans name is even mentioned he is and is always the ONLY college coach ever mentioned in most articles. He has said and more now then ever he is committed to LSU and to refrain from constantly mentioning his name. Sure it is flattering but these things DO effect recruiting.
Sabin is apparently using the media to his (& LSU's) advantage! Have you seen the recruits as of tonight? WOW! It sure is affecting recruiting!
Right... Maybe I should explain it a little better. That link was to show everyone that the Detroit Lions had fired their coach, at the time of the post, it was breaking news I decided to share with the board. It was used as the foundation of the post. If that link had anything about Saban in it, my title would not have made sense (Over/Under on first time Saban's name in mentioned) if his name had been mentioned, then there is not point in posting asking when do you think Sabans name will first be mentioned. Sorry I was too vague.
Eleven just posted the Link where Saban nipped in the bud (Again for the 10,000 time) Saying in a nut shell please do not mention my name about any NFL head coaching jobs. This mess is so old, I guess it did nothing to hurt recruiting (May have helped) everyon wants to play for a coach everyone seems to want.. Times are good my friend.
