I hung it on my back porch and I filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table... everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And other birds were boisterous and loud: they sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be... quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now lets see... our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: you child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.
That's as good of an analogy that I've ever read/seen. Kinda like the cat that doesn't hunt if you feed it.:thumb:
What's wrong with a free public education? It's in the best interests of America that all its citizens be educated. Permanent residents, too. Show us your green card, sonny. legal guest workers shouldn't even bring their families. Illegal aliens of any age should be deported. And the people that hire them should pay hefty fines.
i dunno where you got that from, illegals come here to work, to provide cheap labor for americans. the orange juice you drink might be cheaper because it was farmed by illegals, but i do not know that your taxes are higher because of illegals. if there is one thing illegals do, it is work their asses off. so? no you don't your child will learn spanish and have an advantage over the other kids whose schools are miraculously not ruined by illegals how can you deal with this travesty? you should call kelloggs and have the spanish replaced with jibberish. sometimes we have to make sacrifices. i for one and willing to risk my dialing finger and take the risk of using it to mash an extra button once in a while, regardless of the cost. if i get repetitive stress disorder, so be it. i am mashing buttons for freedom. rights? liberties? who do they think they are? jorge washingtonio? juan adams? bid feeder? huh? oh it was a metaphor!
first, i do not advocate giving illegals free junk. but i do want to allow free immigration. my birdfeeder attacted all kinds of interesting new birds i wouldnt have been familiar with otherwise. i was glad to have them. second, your articles show that 70% of that 10 billion goes to educating immigrant kids. that doesnt seem like money wasted to me. we need educated young people in our workforce to suport our aging american population. i am glad these kids are here. third, that number doest take into account all the money saved by americans who get their roof fixed for cheap or have a venezuelan nanny at a discount. in my mind, borders and imigration are only really issues in terms of terrorism. and since mexicans just want jobs, i dont see the problem. maybe if mexican were arabs i would be more worried.
I NEVER get into these discussions here but I have to say something to this one...(be gentle with me Martin!!!:lol: ) I don't know about anywhere else but have you ever been to Orlando or Miami? The illegals do everything but work hard in fact they use more energy on figuring out ways not to work then they would if they would just freaking WORK!!!! In your credit my brother lives in Texas and he says just the opposite about the illegals there but here they are horrible!!!! Just pointing out don't assume they all do because here in Florida that is not the case at all!!! Ok I'm done...remember I said be gentle!!!
The sources you cite never talk about what illegals contribute to the economy. At the end of the day illegals contribute a marginal amount more to the economy than they cost it.
That makes no sense, martin. We can't have an free immigration policy and allow millions in this country anytime they want to come. Aside from the terrorism issue, our population would spiral out of control. We can't allow everyone to come here, even if they are hardworking hispanics. We can only allow so many immigrants into this country every year.
