losing to AU in that fashion early on seemed to be ominous. then i had to watch those pansies continue to run the table, then beat a VT team that decided to drop about 13 TD passes in the sugar.

i dont even need to go into detail about the saban situation that made nearly everyone forget about the cap one bowl. once we finally and mercifully gained closure on that situation, he goes down blue grass miracle style to a well-undermanned iowa.

then the orange bowl just topped everything off. wasn't OU supposed to play in that game?

now the 2 most worthless college teams in the land are undefeated...

what a painful season...but les miles is keeping me optimistic for next year!

Looks like you are going to have a long Winter. Maybe you should plant some pansies and watch them bloom. :hihi: :hihi:

I agree completely. I walked out of Jordan-Hare that Saturday with a knot in my stomach and an AU dirt road alumnus cussing me out while I walked to my car. I had a bad feeling about the rest of the season. LSU had a good season, but overall, this season has been pretty disgusting, especially the bowls. I'm definitely looking forward to next season and a Coach Miles-led group of Tigers.

After how euphoric I was for the majority of the '03 season, the '04 one was pretty unenjoyable.

And the Auburn game wasn't the beginning of the disappointment. That began early during the OSU game Labor Day weekend. At no point during the year did we EVER look like defending national champs. I know we lost some key players from the '03 team, but we just never "had it" during this season. We returned too many great guys to have been as vanilla of a team as we were, rallying to beat the likes of Troy, Vandy, and Ole Miss.

It was a disappointment, capped by Saban's departure, with the icing on the cake being: "Let's hear it for USC--back-to-back national champs..."

Hopefully, the Les Miles era will be more enjoyable than the last year of the Saban era was for us.

Wow, I gave you rep points for this one, good post.
Let me also say that after having the season we had last year that there was
no way we wouldn't have a letdown this year.
We lost half of our offense with our starting QB, wr's leaving.
Sometimes you can have turnover like that and not miss a beat but that doesn't happen very often.

Then the expectations for this season was way too high.
I'm also glad its over because it was agony watching this teams offense play.
We also made the Pac 10 look better with OSU. :dis:

Anyway can't wait to see what Les is going to do but next year won't be any picnic especially if the offense and defense have to learn new schemes.

The 2003 season was special. Everything fell into place, we got just about all of the breaks (the Fla. game would be the exception). The defense was on a mission, as I always joke with my daughter, "the Tiger defense smells blood." The offense clicked, the list goes on and on. It's so difficult to duplicate that from year to year. The 9-3 mark this year is nothing to be ashamed of. Yea, it would have been great if we held on and beat AU -- that sure would have changed the complexion of things. Losing the bowl game was disappointing, but overall 2004 was still a successful year and I'm proud to be a Tiger.

    Here's to a great '05 and a new chapter!

Learn new schemes? Apparently, none of our QB's had any familiarity with our then current schemes, so they won't have to forget very much. ;)

The defense is composed of basically a bunch of freaks, so I think they can make up for whats lost in transition with pure physicality.

I'm not saying that the '04 season wasn't a "successful" one, but I will assert that is wasn't enjoyable. I like to really whip the mediocre competition, and we failed to do that very often. Throw in the embarrassing loss at UGA, and it just wasn't fun--nor was it fun having to PPV half of our games because our competition (who we struggled to beat) was so lousy late in the season.

Then, there was the Nick Saban drama during bowl season. He didn't look that passionate on the sidelines. At one point, I looked at my husband and said, "Nick Saban doesn't CARE..." Now, my three-year-old daughter has picked up on that phrase and runs around the house saying it! But it's a fitting ending to a successful, though unpleasant season.

Just about anything, I believe, was going to feel like a letdown for LSU fans in 2004.

I remember being hyped out of my mind in the days leading to the Oregon St. game...only to watch what transpired on the field. Hell, even the raising of the national championship flag was underwhelming due to the monsoon they had that day.

Also, in general, it just seemed to be a down year for football. Just not as exciting overall.

    Blah. Glad 2005 is here.
