Wish me luck. My ship just got the call to provide support to the people in new orleans. Sept 9th planeflight cancelled (hopefully the 300 dollars will be refunded) LSU vs. ASU tickets will be sold (they were on the 40, under the welcome to death valley sign) We leave soon. wink wink. (gotta remember opsec) I just love the freaking navy! :thumb: Today they called all of us together on the ship for a meeting. immediately afterwards, i went and bought a crapload of beer. F U C K Katrina!
My unit got tasked to go with the Texas national Guard, but my name didnt get drawn. SO I went to the commander and asked to take leave to be able to go help whereever I can. First my own family and then whoever else needs it.
You gotta look at this the right way. Sorry for you to miss LSU football but i gotta tell you. Keep things in perspective. Their are a lot of people that need you and it is for a worthy cause. When you help that first person and see the gratitude i think you know how important what you will be doing is. God bless you and thank you from grateful people. I am stuck in California watching the state i grew up in and love being devastated. I feel helpless. I will be donating to the Red Cross. We each have to do what we can.
I'm gonna see what I can do when I go back to work on Wednesday (NAS is closed until then). I'd like to help with the relief efforts, especially since I'm not starting up with Preflight Indoctrination until November 18. We'll see if they're taking any personnel from here...
Well stated. :thumb: Even from afar, I shudder at the magnitude of the devestation in the NO area. I finally reached my brother today and they got out of NO Saturday. I applaud our Armed Forces members who are stepping up to the plate and offering their services to those LA citizens who desparately need their assistance.
Can't thank our men and women in uniform enough. I now seek them out in public and thank them for serving our country. I can tell they appreciate the jesture. I encourage all to do so.
God, what selfish prick wrote that? :hihi: I called home to baton rouge, ive gotten through once to my mom. we chatted for about 10 minutes, explained what is going on and how I wont be seeing her this month. So itll be 17 months now since ive been home to BR. When I wrote that, I had just gotten home.. luckily a couple of beers have opened my perception. look, im not just focused on the LSU football game. yeah, I wanted to go, but I know its not everything. I can return my tickets to the game and for the flight, but one of my good friends is getting married next week. goodbye plans. goodbye invitations. life gets put on hold. I understand this. but we in the military are not by ANY means ROBOTS. We like football, and we drink beer, and we do all the normal things that everyone else enjoys. so sorry I made one gripe about a game that ive been looking foward to seeing for about 7 months. /end complaining... bring on katrina! the fat whore!
USNAVYTIGER, man, you and your unit...give it hell!! I know it's your job and all, but nevertheless, thanks for giving that extra effort helping people when they need it most.
