Everyone and their brother is proclaiming USC as the national champion because they're #1 in both human polls, where are about as complex as an abacus. And why not? The states containing the Big Ten and Pac Ten comprise nearly 50% of the American population, therefore have the most voters and make the polls all the more legit. Just look at all of these reasons why the human polls are ALWAYS right.... #1: Florida State played Miami in the Orange Bowl last night. Even though Miami PASTED the Seminoles IN DOAK CAMPBELL in October, the human polls had Florida State at #8, one spot ahead of Miami at #9. Guess who won the second time around. (This shows the obvious thought the voters put into their ballots by simply sliding teams up and down from last week's ballot and not noticing two teams who played each other back-to-back in the poll with identical records.) #2: Associated Press Foresight Unlike the BCS, which waits until midseason when teams have played some games, the human polls start ranking teams before ANYONE has played, WHICH creates an uneven playing field before the season begins because it makes the mountain a little tougher for lower-ranked teams to climb. Here's a look at some of the great picks from this year's first AP poll... No. 6 Auburn: finished 8-5 and almost fired their coach before a glorious win in the tradition-rich Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl. No. 14 LSU: finished 12-1 and earned a bid to the Nokia Sugar Bowl to play for the National Championship, clearly the mark of a #14 team. No. 17 Washington: finished 6-6, which included losses to powerhouses Arizona and the University of Nevada-Reno and lost a real nailbiter at Cal 54-7. No. 20 Notre Dame: the Golden Domers finished 5-7, but did have that inspiring three-game win streak with victories over Navy, BYU and Stanford. No. 32 Iowa: Of course the Hawkeyes would crumble after their 11-2 mark from last season. They'll only finish at #10 this year. No. 39 Arizona: OF COURSE the Wildcats were fit for a comeback. The team was behind their coach 100 PERCENT. Zona started off the season receiving more AP votes than teams like Washington State, Oklahoma State, Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green, Cal, Michigan State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Utah and Clemson. No. 43 Washington State: I guess there aren't any AP voters in Pullman. The Cougs knocked off a fifth-ranked Texas team in the Holiday Bowl. They MIGHT finish the year ranked...just maybe. #3 Once a Top 10 team, always a Top 10 team Here's a list of teams that really were ranked in the Top Ten at one point... Oregon (peaked at #8) Arkansas (peaked at#8) Auburn (peaked at #6) Nebraska (peaked at #7) Virginia Tech (peaked at #3) I think the facts speak for themselves. Let's stop all the bitching and let the national championship be determined by the guys who are REALLY in the know, the godsend otherwise known as the human polls.
Im hoping so, but use of Absolute kinda messes up a good post, maybe it was sarcasm. Thats got to be it. ;]
