I didn't see it. But we can welcome Manieri to the insanity of SEC officiating whether it is baseball, football or basketball, the SEC officials always come up with something new. :dis:

i didnt see it, but initially, before a call was made, hanigriff said it was a foul ball. but, then the home plate ump called it fair. after that, the 3rd base ump reversed the call. in the advocate, most lsu fans that saw it said it was foul.

all indications are that it was a foul balll, but that the umps didnt handle it very well.

Coach Manieri said it was the 2nd base umpire who changed the call i thought that the home plate umpire made that call especially if there were only 2 umpires the one at 2nd had no business over ruling the home plate ump.

I read that CPM said the 2nd base umpire. In some article it said the third base umpire reversed the call. SO I guess your both right.

I don't know about college but in High School, no umpire can "Overrule" another and the base umpire has equal authority as the plate umpire. A coach has to ask the ump who made the call if he can appeal it and only if he grants the appeal can a second umpire change it.

Again, College may be different but it is a misconception in High School and Pony League play that the plate umpire can overrule any call.

I was there . The ball was clearly foul. The Big Ragoo looks straight down the LF foul line and confirmed it was foul. In fact most people saw it as foul and were surprised when the home plate umpire gave the home run signal.

After the runner had rounded the bases the Kentucky coach approached the home plate umpire who checked with rest the umpiring crew and the call was reversed.

Regardless of how it is done the umpires primary task should be to get it correct and in this case they did. It just wasn't pretty probably due to the homeplate umpire calling it fair to start with. I believe he made a call on a ball he didn't even see and finally of course this team could have used a good win. They will be tough to come by this year.

The coach was probably asking the plate umpire if he could appeal to a base umpire "With a better view" in this case, I'm guessing proximity and not angle cause I wasn't there.

Correct, that is the ultimate goal. :thumb:
