It’s not about being level-headed, it’s about appealing to emotions and voters that don’t care about firearms. They hear “military style weapon” and freak out, thinking that people who own any AR style rifle is a potential mass murderer. I think it’s more likely that this gets passed because it’s shrouded by “common sense gun control”. I find it a little silly that the left has spent 4 years saying Trump is literally Hitler and a Nazi and a fascist, but then want to pull some real life actual Nazi shit.
