because as an American it is my right to choose not to serve. I have allot of respect those that made to choice to do so, but it wasn't for me.
are you implying that if you support the action in iraq, that you must actually do it yourself or be a hypocrite? if that is what you are implying, then you should try and make more valid points. is that what you are implying? are you aware that not every single able bodied person is needed?
Tore both ACL's as a senior in HS and the asthma did not help. I really wanted to serve for our country. They would not allow it...........
I'm 20 and I'm a girl. If I thought I would be an asset, rather than a liability I would sign up. I wouldn't make it past the first day of basic training. I know I'm too weak physically and probably couldn't handle it mentally. Should you give up your freedoms, because you didn't fight for them?
I'm 49 and just missed my generation's war. I was registered and classified 1-A in my senior year of high school. The year I was eighteen, they only drafted nineteen-year-olds. The year I was nineteen, they stopped the draft. I would have served if the War was still going on and I had been drafted. But I had no interest in the peacetime volunteer military of the 70's. It was college for me. If I was nineteen again . . . I don't know. I might have joined today's professional military to get money for college, which ain't cheap anymore. But not for a career. And certainly not to fight in Iraq. Afghanistan maybe. Those were the guys who hit us on 9/11 and I fully suported that war and I'm appalled that we have been distracted by this business in Iraq and not finished it.
I'm 19, and able bodied. I considered enlisting after graduating from HS, but was talked out of it by my cousin whom was in the service. I still consider it sometimes, but i don't agree with us being the world's police. One of my roommates is a 23 year old Marine who just got back from Iraq and I have several friends who could leave to go there at any moment. Even though some feel that the US should make all kids out of HS serve the US in some way for a couple years before college - they all agree that as long as I signed the contract saying I'm willing to be drafted, I've done my part. PS: Most of my friends are being screwed by the military/LSU and aren't getting money for college.
I'm 22 and joined the Marines 2 years ago, attending Officer Candidates School. I'm a Second Lieutenant and currently awaiting orders to go to training in Virginia. So to answer your question, yes, I love freedom, and yes, I have pretty much volunteered to go serve in Iraq.
