How much revenue did N.O. make from the SB and it's festivities?

I assumed that LSU being in the SB would be very profitable for N.O., but I have'nt heard any figures about it. I also wonder how the figures compare to the FSU-Va. Tech game a few years ago. That game was in N.O., right?

Being a resident of this fine city, I have to imagine that the city did very well. What was especially impressive is what was going on off of poydras street in what is the CBD. RV,s of people partying and a couple of massive parties thrown by HATT and DEEP SOUTH--KREWE Of RAGOO. The quarter is always packed on weekends But on saturday prior to the game it looked like a true warmup to Mardi Gras. Any city official who says this was not the best Sugar Bowl in terms of ecomomic impact is a clown. If the dome could have held two Hundred thousand it would have sold out.

I heard the mayor, the great C. Ray Nagin, say that this Sugar Bowl exceeded all of their expectations. Sounds good to me.

I think I read it on the Times Picayune site and they estimated $175M total.

The Sugar Bowl's little media guide claims that it generates anywhere from $175-185 million per year worth of economic impact on the state, and directly, New Orleans...

I'm guessing when you had a cinderella story like that...the Quarter, and the Mall, and the Galleria, and the surrounding bistros, grocery stores, the French Market, etc., all saw great returns with people who were in town not only for the game, but got a little tipsy and loose with the pocket book...

Thanks for the info. I had no clue what kind of number it would be.

And to think another thread questioned whether LA. would issue a LSU NC license plate. Politics or not, the LSU admin. should be demanding one.

Some of the guys I went down there with contributed greatly to the economy of New Orleans as they attempted to drink themselves into oblivion.
