This is how I see it went down: 1. UM went to Mile's agent and showed interest 2. Miles said he doesn't want to talk about jobs 2 weeks ago, but his agent and UM were possibly working on a contract. He obviously had interest and wanted the job. 3. After the Arky loss, UM gets permission to talk to Miles, LSU says only after the SECCG. 4. I think the Miles interview could've been just a formality but we may never know. I think something was already ironed out with UM at this point. 5. LSU showed Miles what they would pay him to counter UM in the event he had the UM offer already or LSU was trying to head off the UM advances before the interview 5. Desmond Howard leaked to Herby that Miles was going to UM, which could've been accurate and I suspect was accurate. If Desmond was the leaker, then we know that Miles was actually going to UM. 6. Miles was forced into a decision since he had a SECCG to play and agreed verbally to LSU, but hasn't signed anything. 7. Now will UM still go after Miles? I think it is possible. I don't think ESPN tried to affect any SECCG with leaking the info. They wanted to be the first to report it and I think it had some truth to it. I think ESPN forced Les into a corner with this announcement, so Les and LSU had to make a decision. I hope Miles stays, but he was elusive in his answers during the PC and only said he would be the coach at LSU next year with the CBS girl. I still feel a little uneasy until he signs the contract. If ESPN wouldn't have spilled the beans ( I do think there were beans to be spilt) Les would be going to UM. But the leaking of the story and now LSU is in the NT game, Les will be staying at LSU. I do think there was truth to what ESPN reported. It was only "erroneous" info after Miles had verbally agreed with LSU on Friday night. Just my opinion.
You may be correct. I don't know. What I do know is that Miles has stated there were no talks and no deal with UM. The UM AD has stated there were no talks with Les or his agent. As far as I am concerned, it is over and I take these men at their word. All coaches and all ADs are not like Saban - you can take some of them at their word, if not, no parent in his or her right mind would let their son go away with them for 4 years. Now lets go bring home another :crystal: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
You may be correct up to your first #5. Numerous published reports have said that a verbal agreement was reached between LSU & Miles Friday night. The news that Herbie broke Saturday morning was based on info I suspect he got from Desmond Howard. As it turns out, it was old and false news.
What JP has posted fits exactly with how UM hired their last basketball coach. Much of what he has posted is correct and verified with some I know within the ESPN family.
Umm. Perhaps. Of course, now Les is LSU all the way. Michigan is looking elswhere and the Tigers are going to wait till after the Championship game to finalize the salary. He gets to be one of the top 3 SEC salaried coaches for his SEC CG victory and one of the top 5 national salaried coaches if he wins the NC game. Unless Miles pulls a Saban (and the man has far too much integrity for that), he is here for the long haul. The only time Michigan might come calling again is if there new head coach flounders in 3 years.
I don't fault them for going with the story. Howard was obviously not aware that a deal had been struck Friday night. That doesn't change the fact that the story Herbie leaked was inaccurate.
Saying Howard wasn't aware of what was going on is a false statement. He's part of the group making the decision. It's been UM's MO that they reach a financial agreement and then enter the interview process. That way, if the job is offered, they don't have to enter a negotiation process. The financial agreements have been reported as in place. All that was left was the interview process which we all know had been agreed upon to happen after the SECCG. What Herbie said looks to be very true. What changed the opinions of all what Miles calling a presser hours before the game in a response to it.
Do you think that since CLM said he was coming back to LSU effected the voters for the BCSNC game. Do you think it could have swayed voters that CLM didn't give up/quit on this team? :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
This is my last post on the topic because it is senseless to discuss any further. Howard was not aware of what went down Friday night in Atlanta. As a result he was probably convinced that Les would end up in Ann Arbor. The presser was called to refute the false ESPN story.
Oh really. I didn't see that Les and his agent or UM claimed they had never talked. Do you have a link or anything for that? I was unaware of this. If this is true then ESPN and their source were completely wrong and lied. I actually believe that there could've been a deal reached or it was in the process of being reached between UM and Les.
