After watching all the replays from last year over and over again, i wonder if we can come close to replacing drake! sure m brockers will be big in the middle and ego and bennie logan will be good dts but i wonder if anyone of these guys can match the lateral quickness and be able to move as fast getting in the backfield as drake did? or do we rely on the ends do do it for us this year.will josh downs get big enough to be a dominant dt? he always seems to end up under his opponent! this concerns me as we need him to get stronger so he can fight off the blocks quicker and use his speed.
DE's will be betters and have more depth this year. DT will end up being a push if the freak steps up.....
Hopefully, Montgomery is back at full strength. Freak will live up to his name IMO. The LBs are the only question mark on this defense.
Downs and Brockers have potential, but they must step up and take charge this year. There is no obvious Nevis/Dorsy/Lavalais-type candidate yet.
There is no obvious Nevis/Dorsy/Lavalais-type candidate yet I have a couple of obvious candidates !! Brockers and Freak
Candidates, yes. But neither has walked the walk yet. We won't know until someone does. Brockers has gotten opportunities but has not shown all-SEC caliber play yet. I hope Freak is a freak, but I don't remember anyone starting on the defensive line on day 1 as a true freshman since A. J. Duhe in 1973.
Ever check Nick Fairley #'s for 2009? 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2 TFL. Pep, Charles Alexander, Woods, and Alem all had as good or better numbers the same year. You never know who will step up from one year to the next. This is the money year for K. Adams, let see what he does. If you look, LSU is starting to put up numbers like when Bo Pelini was the DC. Things are falling into place. Last year we only returned 4 starters on the defensive side of the ball and still won 11 games. Remember Taylor was one of the returners and only played in 9 games. Montgomery played in 5 games, by the numbers he was putting up, I would have liked to seen what he would have done for the full year. Looking at the Spring game, names like Logan, Barrow, Vinson, Bryant, Adams and a few others were making plays. This side of the ball is still young, with a good mix of players. We return 27 lettermen from this side of the ball, thats a good number.
Perhaps. I like Adams, too. I never questioned our depth or talent level, just that the next dominating LSU lineman must separate himself from that distinguished company in August.
Nevis was good, so dont misunderstand this, but when we had a bad game, it hurt our D noticeably. I think this was due to more of a lack of depth at DE and youth. I think this year, the DE's will bring loads of pressure so I really hope out of DT's are just to maintain and not lose the battle. They don't really have to be world beaters, but sucking up a few Double Teams would be nice.... LB is the true test....
we dont have enough ass upfront. this is usually what defined us in the NC years. now we are just another light pac-10 front with a little more depth but weaker linebackers. could be a long year against the stoutest SEC teams in the trenches when we're trying to stop the run.
