What will be different about this MSU game from the ASU game? Both were blowouts against far inferior teams. My point is, our offense looked amazing against ASU - then we had our mishap in Auburn. Now our offense looks amazing again after beating Mississippi St. How good is it really? Is it good enough to beat Georgia on the road? What about Florida a week later?
Unfortunately we won't know until AFTER the Georgia game. The only thing that we got going is more experience. Next time maybe Doucet doesn't drop a critical pass in the waning seconds. Next time maybe Russell connects to an open Buster Davis for a put away touchdown early in the 4th quarter. Little things like this are MORE likely to go our way. Hopefully it's what makes the difference is LSU winning the game this time around.
Here's what I think: The offense is good enough. As good as the defense is, the offense doesn't have to be spectacular. The offense will, however, have to protect the ball, and the QBs will have to hit the open receivers most of the time. I feel really good about our chances against Georgia. Florida scares me more than Georgia...
Florida does not scare me as much as Georgia. Their defense is not nearly as good, so there stands a decent chance our offense can really get cranking on those guys. And our D will stop Florida's offense. Could make for a really nice showing for LSU. The Georgia game is destined to be another 10-9 defensive struggle.
i think we're a little handicapped because we won't throw the ball downfield. i dont think there's enough experience on O to score without throwing a pass over 10 yds. i was really disappointed not to see any downfield passes against msu. wtf?
I like the lack of downfield passes, Randall can't throw a good long ball and Russell may not make the best decision if pressed into throwing a bomb. With our receivers being able to catch any short ball and take it to the house, why risk more than 15 yards on a pass? 15 yard passes are more than enough to open up the running game...and our running game is more than enough to open up the 15< yard passes. What I'd like to see is more use of screens to RBs and some TE play.
My Turn JR has a little trouble with the short or bubble screen. He just looks like he has show much ability to throw the ball that right now the intermediate routes are his money. But as his confidence grows the deeper ball will become his money.. I believe he will be hitting Bowe and then Doucet soon. His best pass to me is the post. Although I thought he hit a couple of 15+ yard post yesterday. The X man got one from MF but I don't know what secondary MSU had at that point of the game. Anyway it should be good for him and his progresssion. JR was accurate yesterday as he was agaist ASU. I just don't know how much time he needs to go to the #2 and #3 guy and how well he does that agaist a quality opponent. I also wonder if he wasn't a little bedazzled playing against the team that he read about, watched heard about and all that other stuff all his life. Now that should be delt with. AB is running like Toefield on steriods. I like it!! Shy showed his ability to make the first guy miss and the rest should not get a square shot on him. More game time will only help Shy. So UGA next and it only gets better with UF. MR has looked good the times he has been in the last two games and believe like I heard in the post game show that if his #1 receiver is not open then just tuck it and run. Offense looks like JF is figuring out how to run what with all the different talents this team has. Feeling pretty good right now about the next 2 games and everyone is healthy.
We can't turn the ball over 4 times to Georgia. Especially on their end of the field. Otherwise, I'm feeling pretty confident. If the O line opens some cracks, and gives the QB some time we'll be OK.
I think UGA is way overrated. Heard a guy on ESPN say that he thinks they play down to the level of the competition. I don't buy that, but we will know soon enough.
