http://www.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/uwire/091603aan.html In looking at this article, it appears that some folks may think that Greene has been successful simply because he has some great athletes playing along side of him. Greene currently has a 68.1 completion percentage. But could this possibly be because David Greene is one of the most accurate passers in the country? Just starting his Junior year, he has already racked up 6,000 yards through the air in two seasons. Did that happen simply because he lobbed the ball up to great athletes who simply compensated for Greene's average passing skills? The truth is, Fred Gibson may be out or see limited play on Saturday, but this will not slow down David Greene in the least. Any thoughts? And it looks like we'll all see what the LSU secondary is made of..!!
Hey, Chip wrote a two-sentence paragraph! Once again the numbers tell a different story. Matt Mauck is ranked #4 nationally in pass efficiency. David Greene is ranked #13, a fine QB, but not in the top five. www.ncaa.com
How ridiculous is it to use stats such as pass effiecency and total offense or defense at this stage of the season? When Mauck racks up a 9-0 record on the road or gets to be 24-5 as a starter let me know. He's a fine QB (Mauck), but to use his "pass effieceny rating" as proof of his superiority to Greene is silly a simplistic at best.
Re: How ridiculous is it to use stats Actually, I'm kind of curious to see how Mauck will do when he is finally pressured this weekend. If LSU can't mount much of a running attack, Mauck will be zero-ed in on, and I think he has only average speed. About a 4.8 - 40 or so? Does anyone know exactly how fast Mauck is?
Red55: Based on some UGA fans that I know, I can’t understand why you could have the nerve to consider that Matt is in the same league as Greene. Matt achieved those numbers against cupcakes and there is no way that he will succeed against the mighty doooooogs! UGA has played against much tougher competition. That talent has matured overnight and what once resembled an 8-4 season now has NC written all over it. Hell I don’t know why any of us would think we have a remote possibility of even staying close to this mighty doooog team let a lone win. UGA is not concerned about the Tigers; “Mark” has players in the LSU line up that graduated last year. He is not concerned about Clayton, Shyrone, Skyler, or Davery, because that UGA lockdown secondary will not let them off the line. LSU is in so much trouble with Pollack’s speed, that Pollack will probably take the snap from Wilkerson, hand the ball to Matt and then sack him. My God…call the game off it’s going to be a UGA massacre of my Tigers.
4.8 fort????? no way Dude, Mauck is a running quarterback. His range is about 4.6. I agree he is no David Greene, as far as a pure drop back pressure, but lately Mauck has developed into a very smart quarterback who makes great decisions.
Re: 4.8 fort????? no way Thanks for answering my question. 4.6 will give Mauck the ability to scramble some when he is pressured.
Not only is he fast, he is extremely difficult to catch when he scrambles. Very shifty. He may need it if our pass protection looks like it did a few times against the 3 pansies we played. There will be a few breakdowns in protection, but it shouldn't cost us the game.
My best advice to LSU is to be ahead by more than a FG with less than a minute to go. Green can move the ball down field quickly and Bennett is a good kicker. If LSU can control the LOS they can win this game. As far as I can see this game is the first real test for either team. This is the premier SEC matchup of the week. Good luck to you guys.
