Gotta ask the question...how far will our Tigers go this season? As much as it hurts to say it, I bet we will lose to either Florida or Georgia on the road. I hope I'm wrong, but I just feel it. I was hoping we could at least beat Auburn and only have to worry about losing 2 of the games (at the most) but if we lose all 3, uh oh. First, we have to pick a starter at QB and soon. Our offense isn't being able to get a rythm with all these switches at quarterback. Saban needs to pick a man and stay with him or else we are in big trouble. Randall started out real good, but after that did nothing absolutely NOTHING. JaMarcus had a nice drive in the 4th quarter until Early practically handed the ball to Auburn. I say we start Russell next week and come out passing and try to set the tone of the game early. If we go through this crap again we will be lucky to win 8 games. Randall just isn't a good QB, plain and simple. JaMarcus has talent and we need to play him. Back to my question, how will we do this season? Will we take the back seat in the West? Or win the rest of our games and hope Auburn loses?
Teams that "come out passing" usually dont win championships. So lets not start emulating texas tech. The key to a championship is running the ball and playing defense. We havent run the ball very well. Apparently the o-line is not as good as was advertised. LSU NEEDS a running style qb in the backfield to keep the LB's and DB's honest against the run. As good a runner as Russell should be, no one even took a second look at him when he bootlegged after a hand off. When Randall did this, he usually had a spy and a DB watching him. Most of LSU's weaker runs were when russell was in the game and the backside guy came in and stopped the run instead of keeping contain on the QB.
I respect your opinion, but disagree. Did you see how well Randall drove us down the field at the end of the game? I'm not saying throw it 15 times on the first drive, I'm just saying throw it more. I think we should try and use the pass to open up the run instead of using the run to open up the pass. I'm saying to do this only if Russell starts. If Randall starts then I say we do the complete opposite. I like the bootleg the only thing is, Randall can't hit the backside of a barn when he is on the run. Let's finally give Russell the start and see how well he does. I see Rohan Davey all in this kid, and I know that all of you guys remember the "Golden Arm". :yelwink2:
We are not in the back seat of the West just yet. We have played 1 SEC game this year. We have 7 to go. Auburn fans know even, though they may not admit it, Tubberville is good for three loses a year. Yesterday they beat the youngest team in the conference by one point. Hell we were on a game winning drive when a slight error was made. We have team that can and will continue to improve to the point of a steamroller. I keep thinking back to three years ago after we lost to Ole miss and I kept telling my friends all we have to do is take care of our business and everything will fall into place. On last thing, isn't it nice to be the team that everyone makes a big deal out of beating. Over on ITAT some act like it is the biggest win for Auburn in the last ten years. Tiger fans keep your heads up we are about to destroy those who lay before us, so enjoy it is going to be a fun ride. GEAUX TIGERS!!
How far we go depends on just how fast we can get an identity on offense and become better on that side of the ball. From the looks of things this team has a ways to go and we have some tough road games right around the corner. I think we're really going to benefit from a weaker than usual western division this year with MSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas being not as good as years past. I think we will lose at least 2 games if not 3, growing pains could be really bad on offense this year. Hope I'm wrong!
Nothing wrong with the Texas Tech offense. They score lots of points. They scored 70 yesterday. Its just that they have such a lousy defense that they are always playing games with scores like 56-49. What if LSU emulated TT on offense and the 70's Pittsburgh Steelers on defense? :thumb: :yelwink2:
I don't think all is lost just yet. We can still make the NC if we win out and get some help. Anyway, I think the SECCG is still a realistic goal, as well as a BCS bowl. LSU teams in the Saban era have gotten better as the season wears on, I expect no less this season.
I didm't say we WERE in the back seat of the west, just if we would and no I don't mean fall behind MSU and Ole-Miss. I'm glad to see that you guys still have faith. Let's do it Tigers!
I'll respectfully disagree. We don't need an option QB. We're not trying to be a spinoff of the old Nebraska tradition. I'll also go on record as saying that I don't want us to be strictly a passing offense either, but we don't need an option QB. We have enough talented RB's that can get the job done. We need a QB that gives us a threat to throw the deep ball. We have young, talented WR's and we need to start getting them the ball, and letting them use their speed and agility downfield in the open. You use a one-deminsional offense, and the defenses will do nothing but put 8 men in the box and stack the line of scrimmage. Then what do you do?
