Obviously, the program is in much better shape than it was 5 years ago and the team is still loaded. But, we were expected to compete for another NC next year and that could still happen, but I think we can alll agree that it just got alot tougher. Plus, recruiting WILL take a hit. Is this something we can recover from quickly or will it take a year or longer? I realize that only time willl tell, but what are your opinions today?
First people need to get off this notion that we will compete for a national championship this year, that year, etc. If not you will be disappointed more than not. Yes we should strive for the best and want it but to expect it usually results in fan meltdowns that do not help. We may be hurt a little in recruiting but this is the best year to go through this. We don't have many scholarships. We will easily be able to fill up our class with very good players, even if some that we were going to get go elsewhere. Saban was having to turn down many good players because we don't have room. Support the next coach, don't get crazy with expectations, and life will continue to ge good as a Tiger.
My feelings on recruiting are that this may be somewhat of a blessing that it happened this year when we will be having the self imposed 2 less schollie, LA is in a down year and we have a few grayshirts who hopefully will still become Tigers. We also have very few seniors on this team and as long as many of them don't use this decision as a poor reason to enter the draft, we should be loaded again next season. The relatively weak recruiting class of 3 years ago proves to me that it is not very hard to overcome one class that is not up to caliber. As for the play of next season, I don't think anyone can give more than a somewhat educated guess until we know who the coach is and what players we lose.
