Am a little concerned about the offensive line for this coming season. While I'm pretty sure we can put a formidable starting 5 out there, depth to me looks a little thin, especially at the tackle position. Right now we have C. Black, M. Snyder, Carnall Stewart, and Zhamal Thomas listed at OT position. I'm sure there will be some shuffling around of players at spring camp and it will all be sorted out. We seem overloaded at center with quality upperclassmen in Helms, Miller, and Andrew Decker, all Juniors. Also at the TE position seldom used Andrew Wright and Kyle Anderson both have the height, if they have or can put on the weight/strength maybe could be moved to OT. On Dandy Don's depth chart (which he even says is just his best guess) he has Carnall Stewart listed as starting RT. It just seems a bit shakey to me at this point.
I believe Black is a lock at tackle. I'd like to see Helms, Miller, Arnold & H. Johnson play the other 4 postions, but I don't know who could move to tackle. We shall see.
He'll have to get quicker. They moved him to guard last year because he could be beat on the outside by a quick DE . . . and they're all quick in the SEC. Black is a lock at tackle. Arnold is a lock at guard, if healthy. Helm can play center and guard while Big Herm held his own at guard last year. The other tackle is the big question mark. right now I see: LT -- Ciron Black 6-5/315 LG -- Will Arnold, 6-4/320 C -- Brett Helms, 6-4/300 RG -- Herman Johnson, 6-7/335 RT -- ?? Snyder, 6-7/290 maybe If Arnold isn't healthy then Helm can go to guard and Miller take center. If Herman lightens up and moves back to tackle, we could have veterans across the front. But I think we will have one green tackle this year. Sophomore Snyder or one of the redshirt freshmen. Perhaps even a true freshman will get a shot with a new offensive line coach. We sure could have used all 6-9/340 pounds of Phil Loadholt.
He was moved to guard this season and started when Brian Johnson was injured. Thought the knock on "Big Herm" was that his foot speed wasn't where it needed to be in order to play tackle.
I agree with all of your spots but one: RT could be Zhamal Thomas, no? LT--Ciron Black 6-5/315 LG--Will Arnold, 6-4/320 C--Brett Helms, 6-4/300 RG--Herman Johnson, 6-7/335 RT--Zhamal Thomas, 6-4/331
whats the knock on Ryan Miller, he has the size to play tackle at 6'6" 315, is a junior and was highly recruited coming out of high school. That would seem to be a pretty solid line with Helms, Johnson, Arnold, Black, and Miller.
I believe that ZT could. He looks to be a bit of untapped talent on the O-line so I would not be surprised in the least to see him atleast get in the G/T rotation.
LT Cirion Black/Mark Snyder/Herman Johnson LG Will Arnold/Matt Allen/Ryan Miller C Brett Helms/Ryan Miller/Andrew Decker RG Herman Johnson/Lyle Hitt/Stephen Singleton RT Carnall Stewart/Zhamal Thomas Carnall Stewart has been at OT for 2 years, so its about that time for him. Mark Snyder was undersized but has put on alot of muscle. Herman will be the emergency tackle until he can cut some more weight. Brett Helms and Ryan Miller are really a push at C, but Helms has been able to stay healthy more than Miller. Center and guard are gonna be the solid spots. LT with Cirion Black is great because he will be guarding Flynns backside, but there is no depth. RT is a run blocker and Stewart or Thomas should be able to fill the role.
