He coached in the Big 12 Championship Game. He is supposed to be at the Sugar Bowl with the team in a supporting role.
He is gone now. Completely with Arizona from what I understand. I'm concerned about the effect his absence may have on the defense, no doubt. The good thing for OU is that they have a month to prepare so this should allow the coaching staff plenty of time to iron out the details as far as who is responsible for what and how things will be decided during the game. There is enough redundancy and overlap in the coaching staff so that the style of play and schemes shouldn't really be affected. The rest of the staff has been together during the last five years. I don't think there will be any rummaging around the coaches offices with the question of "Where did Mike keep that damned play book?!"
How critical would it have been had we lost Muschamp before the GA game? These things don't matter ... in the big scheme ... they have no effect on the team at all ... right ... snicker ... now those are beehives
Yeah I agree that it's all in who clls what schemes at what time. I know if I were an OU fan iI wold have loved to danced with the one that brougt me there. I also would agree with the position that he will not be there in the Sugar bowl as a coach would seem to be a distraction and don't see how it would aid in getting anybody up for the game
As I've heard it said - if you can't get up for this game, you don't deserve to play for either team. There is plenty of time to get ready. If Muschamp left, we still have Saban. Bob Stoops is the OU head coach and he is the person they hired not his brother. With or with out Mike, I believe that LSU will win. I just believe this team is destined to be NC. Either way as an LSU fan I'm a winner just by us being there. Geaux Tigers!
I think the Mike Stoops thing was a distraction for the BIG 12 game, but I don't think it will have anything to do with the Sugar Bowl. I expect a good tough game between these two teams. It's not like we are lining up against Cal, Vandy, or Baylor. If any team in the country could give us a good game it will be Okla, I beileve they are a more of a complete team than SC . . . however, that said LSU will win I feel like ChuckE does it is destiny this year.
Brent Venables, co-defensive cordinator, is the main man now for the defense. Bob Stoops has taken over the defensive backs coaching for now. Venables said that it helped having Mike Stoops there because they were able to better disect an offense together. I believe this is going to have an effect. But I believe the difference is going to come in the strength of LSU's d-line against OU's o-line and the depth and speed of our receivers and our ability to run the ball vs their lack of ability to run on us. They can say what they want, but the loss to KSU shook them up. This is not the same team that ran over everybody the first part of the year. This is a team that doubts itself now and they have the pressure of feeling that if they don't win this game, their entire season is a failure. How sad! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!! :geaux: :lsug: :geaux: :lsug: :geaux: :lsug:
I just hope if OU loses this game they don't blame it on Mike Stoops leaving, that seems like a lame excuse that everyone uses in that situation.
Venables is the brain in the booth. I think they're disrespecting him by considering bringing in Pellini as co-DC.
Venables coaches from the sideline, not the booth. Not really relevant but just for the sake of accuracy. I think Stoops' philosophy is redundancy on the staff. That way they are never left in a bind when a coach leaves. Call Venables DC or CoDC or waterboy along side Pelini or whom ever he brings in. I don't think they are too concerned about the titles since their roles are very intertwined.
