It is pretty funny. Although once the guy takes a dislike to Nick, I think he goes too far. Who says he was over rated at LSU? He was a good solid coach here. He wasn't going to win the nat. championship every year, but he won it once and earned his stripes. But I never saw an article like that about him in La. when he was here. They get in your face pretty quick over in Bama. Course if he wins early, they'll stop criticizing him.
Was Saban considered a "great" coach before we won the NC? Does Tubbs deserve more credit for going undefeated the next year, even though they didn't win the NC? Perception is a funny thing, we got lucky in our NC year, Auburn got unlucky (or screwed) the next year. I am glad that Saban did what he did while here, but I am also glad that we have a character person to coach our team now.
Saban has reportedly had his share of strained relationships with the media. Not surprising that this guy is not happy with him. When a coach won't talk to the media, or won't talk to them as much as they'd like, I guess this is the kind of stuff that should be expected. Bottom line, either this guy is really pissed at Saban or he's just trying to be controversial or both.
The same thing happened here in 2000. The top local sportswriters were used to a lot of access and it disappeared with Nick. They grumbled about it in their columns, too. When Nick started winning they just had to let it go. If Nicks wins at Bama, local sportswriters will just have to get used to it, as well. Of course, if Nick fails to produce championships, they will turn on him quicker than you can say "Mike Shula". And the same thing would have happened here.
