FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS POST, LETS ASSUME SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STAYS #2 so I was listening to Todd WRight all night on ESPN radio. He opened the last (most recent, just played) segment of his show by playing Dolly's Rocky Top..."Hmm," I thought, "I guess he's going to talk UT vs. whomever"... Then he starts talking. Talks about there having been a BCS conference call today, all the various scenarios were discussed and "who plays who" probabilities were thrown out. Now, keep in mind that last season the Orange bowl really shocked everyone by picking IOWA to play SOuthern Cal in the Orange bowl, a game Southern Cal was in B/C they lost their Rose Bowl tie-breaker with Wazzou. The Rose bowl really wanted a big ten/pac 10 game, but because the buckeyes were going to the national championship they would have had to take at large iowa. They didn't get the chance. THIS SEASON: The Orange Bowl's mouth is watering for an Ohio State vs Miami repeat of last year's National Championship game. This would really intrigue Miami fans and Ohio State fans and would be a good bowl game plot. Ever since last season's percieved Orange Bowl screwing of the Rose Bowl, revenge has, very seriously (i thought itw as a joke), been on the minds of Rose Bowl officials. Again, it seems, with the possibility of Southern California not going to the Rose bowl as BCS #2 in the sugar the Rose will not get their Big 10 vs Pac 10 game. But, since Oklahoma would be #1 the Fiesta bowl would get to select their first at large to play Florida State. All scenarios seems to have the Fiesta Bowl selecting Texas first in place of Oklahoma (since they're number one, Fiesta gets first dibs). Keep in mind here that because Michigan is the big ten champion OHio State, if selected to go to a BCS game would be an at large. There are only two at large slots open for the BCS bowls. The scenario, proportedly being played out is for the Fiesta to select texas, then the Rose, in an effort to screw the Orange Bowl's chance to get the OSU/scUM, to select Tennessee. The backup to this theory? Three schools were told today (Tuesday) that they should prepare for a possible at-large BCS Berth. Those schools? Ohio State. Texas. Tennessee. This would force the Orange bowl to select either LSU or Georgia, the SEC Champion to go to Miami for the Orange bowl.
So, under this scenario the BCS Bowls will be: Sugar: OU v. USC Rose: UofM v. Tenn. Fiesta: FSU v. Texas Orange: Miami v. SEC Champ. Terrible match-ups in the orange and the Rose. We'll kill Miami. What a mis-match Tenn. dosen't deserve a Rose spot & they can't win. Nobody cares about FSU v. Texas (but we already knew that). Just another example of the politics and crap that goes along with this BCS. These match-ups suck and they only point America's attention to the "title" game. Making the other bowls meaningless.......except to the teams and fans that are in them. BCS Sucks
Does Tenn deserve it any less than Ohio State this year? They both have two losses! With that said, if two SEC teams go to a BCS bowl, it should be the two playing in Atlanta this weekend!
In this case, the Rose Bowl would be biting off it's nose to spite it's face. Michigan/Tennessee is horrible. Tennessee should have lost to Kentucky last Saturday, did these Rose Bowl officials watch this game? Michigan vs. SEC Championship is much better, especially if it's LSU. OSU will play Miami in the Orange bowl, and Tennessee will be left out in the cold (as well they should be).
I agree. I can't beleive that the Rose people would be that stupid. They have to go for the best match-up available. As did the Orange last year. Even though they "screwed" the Rose.....it was a no brainer (before the game) to take Iowa. It turned out poorly for Iowa though.
I just cant believe that the Fiesta would not take LSU as the first choice ( if LSU does not make NCG ). Texas why????
I wondered the same thing when I read this scenario. The only thing I can figure is the Fiesta people want to keep the Big12 tie-in intact. But again......They should be concerned with the best match-up for a quality game. Texas is good.....but come on....they are not very good.
Most importantly about this crap... If we lost, why in the hell would Texas, Tennessee, or Ohio State be deserving of a BCS game ahead of us. That is plain and simple horse crap and shows the inadequacies of this system. :cuss:
