Thanks for your post about this unfortunate event. The high majority of Tiger fans send their sincere apologies to you and your friends. I'm pleased you posted this comment. All our fans need to be reminded of the few individuals who will cause violent behavior. We Tiger Fans need to try our best to stop it when we see it. It's unfortunate that all universities have to combat the few that let alcohol or who are just plan violent, ruin such a wonderful collegiate football experience. I know some of our fans had similar bad stories after our trip to Blacksburg a few years back. What seems to have served as a positive from having the Hokies visit our campus was a true campus/game wide focus on treating our visitors with respect and hospitality before, during and after the game. It seems for most visitors this happen. It sickens me that your 71 year old friend was attacked. Please convey to him and his family our hopes and prayers for a quick, physical and emotional healing. I wish the perpetrator could be found and arrested for this attach. We continue to remember the Virginia Tech tragedy and the pain felt by so many of your faculty, students and family members. We pray for healing and peace.

Thank you again for your posting. I hope we can schedule another football series with Virginia Tech bringing with it a renewed focus on how to treat each others fans when they visit each school. We need to jointly celebrate the privilege we have each weekend of the College Football season.

Good luck to the Hokies this year! :thumb:

September 11, 2007 “They’re awful down there...They curse you out...They threaten you...They throw full cans of beer and bottles at your head.”
Those were just some of the statements I heard when mentioning to people I was heading down to Louisiana State for a football game. They weren’t exactly encouraging words for a visiting fan making the trip.
However, after spending the weekend surrounded by tens of thousands of Tiger faithful and making hundreds of new friends, I am here to set the facts straight and let everyone know that this portrayal is absurd and totally unfounded.

GREAT post! I'm glad to see that the guy wasnt swayed by the jerks of Bama and AU. Believe me, both schools arent a cake walk to be an opposing fan to visit.

I used to have good feelings for the SC fans, but after checking out their message board I'm not 100% convinced they are the good hearted fans I knew when I lived in SC.

People always remember the bad over the good, so I'm glad to see this guy only had 100% good to report.:thumb:

I'm convinced that we do treat out of conference opponents; particularly one that just suffered a horrific tragedy, differently than we do fans from our hated SEC rival schools. Make no mistake, we were on our best behavior this weekend.

Having said that, our reputation of poor treatment to our rival schools fans is still overblown and exaggerated.

I just want to add an experience I had in Little Rock after we lost the 2002 game I think it was, the year Arkansas won on what I think was the last play and kept us out of the SEC champ game. When I left the stadium walking to my car I thought I was gonna be killed. It was a mob scene and everyone was yelling and throwing things at me because I was wearing LSU stuff. I vowed never a return trip to Arkansas. TV is fine with me when we travel there. They won't get any of my money into their economy after what happen. If I ever see an LSU treating an opposing team badly I will be the first to confront the LSU fan. It just is not necessary to treat opposing fans badly. What's the point?

i admit it was me who hit the 71 year old man. he and I had just had a DNA test on maury povich which determined he was my dead-beat father all these years which I was ok with.

until i found out he's a hokie fan. that was the last straw.
