Just wonderin' how you guys feel about our "rivalry..." Over the last five or so years, this game has become a "must-win" for each team. A lot of you guys discount our rivaly by saying that Bama is your rival... but after the last few years, I'd like to know how you all feel about this? If not a rivalry, it's become a pretty damn important game! :geauxtige
I did this poll on the AU board last week..... you wanna know what they think, hit the link http://www.aunation.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=20543
Which brings up another point... do they consider us on par with Bama? Probably not, but who knows. Still... 67% is a good bit
No, if you read the post you will see that just about all consider us a rival but behind both Bama and UGA.....some put us on par with UGA, but for the most part we are a distant 3rd, but still considered a good rival.
I we got to AU next year and win, then smoke cigars at midfield..I promise we'd move up from 67% ...or if we plant the LSU flat at midfield.
I do not think of bama as a rival. Disdain comes to mind, but not rival. ut is bama lite UGA is like my friends I compete with in chess. A challenge, but no fire. LSU, you have passion and your fans are not interlopers who show up only when it is fashionable. You have pride, not arrogance. You can compete. Sounds like a rival to me.
I think you nailed why in the SEC every conference game is a rival. When both the teams playing have had success recently that makes them more passionate against the other. As an LSU fan I want to win them all but for me Bama, Auburn, and Ole Miss have a little extra to them.
Auburn is the game I point to every year as one I really want LSU! to win. Like it or not, Tubby has made the faux Tigers a very dangerous rival/opponent. Being a Western Division rival makes the game even more important. Bama? Pshaw. Has beens.
It's critical to understand that the Alabama and Georgia rivalries are not only our longstanding traditional rivals, but that they are in areas that constitute Auburn's key recruiting regions. For most of these fans, they grow up with this rivalry from one generation to the next, with deep roots and prejudices about the other programs. The LSU rivalry has become much more visible in recent years due to the high level of competition between the two programs. At this point, it can be stated that LSU and Auburn have dominated the West in recent years (and, IMO, will do so again this year) and will continue to do so until Bama proves it is "really" back. It would be hard to imagine a scenario where AU developed a rivalry that would surpass the iron Bowl, but one can only hope :hihi:
