I would like your honest opinion on what ya'll think about the pass interference call, and by that I mean look at the play and tell us what you really think. Don't think about it being us and ya'll, pretend it was two other teams, and tell us what you really think the call should have been. And while ya'll are at it, tell us what call you would have wanted the call to be if it was ya'll on the other end instead of us.
Use the link at the top of the board and visit the AU board. You will find that many AU fans agree that LSU got hosed on that and a few other calls.
Seems like it was a bad call. I heard a theory that it was uncatchable becuase of the tip, but I don't think that is a valid explanation. All and all, you got hosed. Not sure how it would have comeout in the long run, but I would rather it have been decided by the players.
Have not posted in a while - but I did want to add my HONEST opinion being an Auburn fan. I felt a HUGE twinge of guilt when I saw the replay. Yes, I think it was a bad call. Am I taking away the tremendous amount of relief that I feel that we won the game? No - because it would be BS. You all know that. I am also not taking away from the fact that our Defense stepped up during that game in a HUGE way - as yours did. I am also stating that I think LSU is a H*lluva good team. Probably more so than 3/4 of the Top 10 right now. I do not know how the outcome would have been had the call stood. We may have held you to a field goal - and we may have turned around a scored again. Sad thing is we will never know. BOTH teams deserved the win. We just got it. Am I relieved? Yes. I am sure you would be too if it were reversed. Do I think it was a bad call? Yes. Nuff said. Hope you have a great remainder of the season. Who knows? We may meet again this year. (It is not impossible)
I am glad the shoe wasn't on the other foot. I also think the referees tried to apply the rule properly, but did not get the timing down. If the ball had been tipped and then the DB hits the receiver, it's the right call. I don't think either official saw the whole play and therefore had to apply the rule based on what they thought happened. They got it incorrect. We all have the benefit of instant replay and slow motion. They were looking at three world class athletes going full speed, taking in a piece of the play and trying to put it all together. I think they missed it, but it was a bang-bang play that could easily have gone either way when you look at it full speed for only one time. As far as costing you the game, there was still 15 yards to go and Jamarcus is much better with a big field to work with. You weren't going to run it in, so the game was still far from over. I'm relieved we didn't have to deal with it. Great game. Go out and win the rest of your games.
Honestly, on the late controversey, I thought it was PI before I learned about the tipped ball. After that, I honestly was not sure. Even after seeing the slo-mo replay, I am uncertain about the rule's interpretation. It's easy to see how a call like that could be ruled the way it was given that the officials did not have the benefit of IR. What I am certain of, is that these officials had decided before the game that they were going to let these two juggernauts go at it. I saw missed PI calls throughout the game that impacted both squads. The most blatant, IMO, was David Irons interfering with LaFell in the endzone, although LaFell had broken his route to adjust to the ball. Same thing happened to Courtney Talor at the 5 yd line late in the 3rd quarter. CT was clearly interfered with and possibly could have scored. (see photos below) I respect the opinions of those here that feel that LSU was jobbed by the officials, but IMHO, I believe there were other calls that were more blatantly wrong than the late PI involving the tipped ball. Again, just one man's opinion and trying to be objective ......
No disrespect intended but for some reason Auburn fans seem fixated on the last blown call. It wasn't the one bang bang play missed call that has Tiger fans screaming it's the many big missed calls on more obvious plays and even overturned calls using replay when it was crystal clear that the right call was made on the field. You could pick out 4 or 5 horrible horrible calls that either one could have changed the outcome of the game and they all went Auburns way. That's still no excuse as LSU had it's chances to win but there is no denying that LSU was playing with one arm tied behind it's back the entire game thanks to not just poor but extremely biased officiating. None of that takes away from the excellent effort by both teams in a hotly contested game and in the end it will be a W for AU, congrats on a game well played.
I'm not providing this as my viewpoint, but here's the official response from the SEC Office as purported on AP Wire:
What about the other 4 or 5 game changing horrible calls? Once again Au fans fixated on the one least questionable call.
