Who is your qb this year? Can you tell us about him/them? I never saw anyone besides JC.

IF they beat Arkansas, they will be undefeated when they hit Baton Rouge. They will leave with some excuse why they were handled like a cheap tart on Bourbon in Tigertown...

MT, I'm beginning to think you just make this stuff up as you go along :hihi:

Anyway, Brandon Cox will be the starter. He's a lefty, prototypical pocket passer, from Hewitt-Trussville, Mr. Football in Alabama, and is ideally suited for the scheme Borges runs. Cox took a medical redshirt after missing his freshman year away from the program. He played only sparingly last season, mostly mop-up duty, so he should be classified as inexperienced, even though he's spent a ton of time around the program.

Borges has been working with him and he seems to have a good mental grasp of the offense, often checking into the right play at the LOS. His defensive "reads" will need to improve, but his accuracy and touch are exceptional, and he handles defensive pressure very well. He is still prone to make mistakes and, IMO, he occasionally tries to force throws - throws he prolly got away with in HS, but not in the SEC. His arm strength is not in the same league as Jason Campbell or Calvin Booker (current backup), but his "escapability" in the pocket is better than either and better than most.

IMO, the best thing in Cox's favor is the schedule - it eases him into the season. One could argue that Ga Tech as an opener is not "easing into" the schedule, but AU gets GT at Jordan Hare, and the gameplan for Cox will be one designed to minimize risk for a new QB. The key for Auburn's offense this season will be keeping Cox healthy :hihi:

If AU remains healthy, they should be 6-0 when they travel to BR. For certain, I'll feel alot better about the offense having 6 games under their belt before they tackle LSU this season.

    Cadillac,
one of my clients is an old man close to the Au program. I said congrats on your season but it looks like y'all are losing alot this year. He said yeah, but we're going to re-load. I was a bit surprised by the way he said it. Says Cox will be very good and the D is still solid. Tell me what you know cos I saw alot of AU draft picks on TV yesterday, I can't see how there won't be some drop off.

To sum up cadillacattacks post:Cox is a Mr. Football who is ideally suited for Borges schemes and spent a ton of time around the program. Good mental grasp with exceptional touch and accuracy. He can escape in the pocket better than JC and better than most.

No wonder you took offense to Marine's post, he nailed you. Get yourself another cup of that good Kool Aid cadillac. Ah......the sun is shining. :hihi:

Dhead, you need to focus on your reading comprehension :hihi: (sarcasm)

MarineTiger's comment was that AU fans were spinning Cox as "incredible".... your cut & paste comments from an AU board merely supports my point that most AU fans, in fact, do NOT believe Cox is incredible, but rather has a long way to go.

IMO, Cox is young and will make mistakes, much as Russell did last season. As a sophomore, this should be expected. My point is that Cox, like Russell, has a lot of potential to develop into a fine QB, but the maturation process for a QB in the SEC is often costly, especially in the "W" column. I see AU going 9-2 if Cox stays healthy.

There will indeed be a dropoff on the offensive side of the ball. I cannot see a scenario that would lead AU to an undefeated season again, but the defense will likely lead the SEC again, so that gives AU a fighting chance against most of their scheduled opponents. (and yes, the defense is that good.) Tuberville's best recruiting job was getting Marcus McNeil to stay for his senior season, and he'll anchor one of our best O-lines under CTT's tenure. If not, there would've been 5 AU players selected in yesterday's first-round.

Whether the defense is enough to carry the team is a major question mark at this juncture....probably too early to tell. I want to wait and see what AU has to work with after fall-ball before making too many predictions about such a young team. Auburn will have a competitive team and their quality depth will insure they are competitive.

As always, Auburn will have a ton of talent. Even when Tubby does not get the so called "great" recruits he seems to do a good job of selecting the the ones who have tremendous potential. I think AU will be very similar to LSU last year at the QB position, if Cox(who was a very highly rated QB) developes and plays good football they will be a very good team. However, their RB situation is isn't as good as LSU's was last year of course and it remains to be seen how good these heralded backups will be. AU's defense will need to carry them through the early part of the schedule I would guess and that GA Tech game is a land mine. If Reggie Ball for Tech doesn't improve I see the Hens winning but they better double team that great WR Tech has, he is incredible.
