People are saying good talent makes good coaches, that his scheme will work better at LSU because of better athletes. Folks, believe it or not, other teams in the SEC have talent too. They workout, they practice too. They have spring practice too. It's not like LSU's talent is head and shoulders above TN, Aub, FL, GA. So, the point is, the margin of error is thin. You need coaches that put their players in the best position to win games. When LSU plays Florida, you might have two teams pretty evenly matched, talent-wise. If one team (LSU) is utilizing a soft, non-aggressive defensive scheme, then, all things being equal, Florida will take advantage. Everyone in the SEC has talent! Yes, recruiting is vital, but so are offensive and defensive schemes and gameplans. Look at Lou Tepper's defense -- it may have worked in the Big 10. There is no doubt the guy was scholarly and even wrote a book on playing defense. Yet his defense was absolutely HORRIBLE in The Southeastern Conference. Someone needs to wake up Mr. Miles and dissuade him from making a HUGE mistake in naming Bill Clay as his DC.
If we change the defensive scheme from what we have now. It will be a HUGE and costly mistake to change the scheme to a "read and react" scheme like we had with Lou Tepper.
He will be run out of town along with his staff if our defense turns out anything like Lou Teppers :cuss: :angryfire
HAs it been conformed that Clay runs a "vanilla scheme." Again, talent wins games int he end..not coaches.
Lou Tepper anyone? Did we have talent when Lou Tepper was here? Another example are the New England Patriots of the NFL. Its talent and not coaches? :hihi: 1 more example, the LSU mens basketball team.
Patriots are very talented. There is a difference between talented and hyped. The NE staff has a good eye for talent evaluation. They are well coached too though, that is why they do everything so fundamentally sound.
