Here is an except from the advocate: http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/010405/lsu_miles001.shtml ---- Bertman said Miles impressed him by not trying to get more money out of LSU after a last-ditch appeal by Oklahoma State. "They came and offered him a lot more money at Oklahoma State," said Bertman, who said OSU matched LSU's offer. "But he wants this challenge." ---- It's interesting that OSU matched LSU's offer. But it is also significant that Miles could have tried to get more money out of LSU, but he wanted to be here. I think that is a good sign.
Absolutely. To me, it means that Miles will be coaching for that "big-time money". He wants to earn it, and IMO, if something is just given to you without having to work for it, you tend to not work as hard.
If you have a chance to coach for the first school in a state or the second school in a state for the same money which do you go for? He has a better chance to win a championship at LSU.
Right, it's not an example of good character it's a sign that he has a brain. Coach at LSU a program with top notch facilities laoded with talent top university in the state more prospects in the state and one year removed from a NC or stay at OSU a program going nowhere and always playing second fiddle to OU? No brainer!!!!!!!
Your post implies that you either didn't read the original post and article or you didn't understand it because you are obviously missing the point. Yes its a no brainer who he would choose between LSU and OK State given the same amount of money. The point is that once OSU matched LSU's offer, Miles could have asked for more money. Any agent's eyes would have lit up when two schools start bidding for their client. Miles could have gone that route, but decided not to.
Well, let's not rush Les' dossier off to the Vatican and recommend him for Sainthood over this. He knows the LSU job is a step up, one that makes it more likely that he'll be tabbed as coach at Michigan when the time comes (brutally blunt but true). Also, he had to know that, while LSU had motivation to make this hire when they did and not dither away any more time searching, if he pushed his luck by asking them to counter Okie St.'s offer, Skip and co. could have told him to take a hike. Yes, it was nice that he stuck to his word regarding the original deal, but it was also smart on his part to do so.
