http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8944240/ncaa-rule-add-ejection-illegal-hit This is absurd. I'm all for player safety but this is just way too objective and puts entirely too much power in the hands of the zebra's. Rule says if penalty happens in the first half the player is kicked out for the rest of the game. If it happens in the second half or OT he is kicked out of the game AND the 1st half of the NEXT game. I certainly hope this dies in committee.
Especially if its a judgement call. One thing for sure, if it's going to happen, it will happen to us.
1. Every penalty is a judgement call 2. No doubt it will happen to us as well as many others, some deserved, some not. 3. If the zebras couldn't see the PP7 interception at BDS then giving them this type of control can only end badly.
This is over kill for what is becoming a necessary evil. Concussions in the NCAA are rising. I watched a news piece on HBO and peanut head reported that the NFL had lowered the frequency of full contact practices to once a week. Practice is where the majority of concussions occur. Smaller leagues, Pop Warner, schools and High Schools had adopted the same rule, significantly reducing concussions in their respective leagues. The NCAA has not adopted this rule and the rate of concussions increase. Seems like the NCAA is trying to put a band aid over a sucking chest wound. Why not adopt the practice rule everyfuggingbody else is using, and perhaps a penalty not near as severe? Or simply file attempted murder charges and be done with it.
My brother thinks that they should quit trying to develop a better helmet and go back to leather helmets with no face masks. Self preservation will take over and defensive players will actually have to tackle people instead of pretending they're human bowling balls. Both offensive and defensive players lower their heads to lead with the helmet. How is a ref going to make that judgement call. Running backs spear as much as defensive backs. This rule is stupid. Don't make stupid rules.....take away their helmets !!!
Take away the helmets and the concussions would be replaced by skull fractures. Better helmets is the best solution and I suspect they are coming soon. A helmet covered with some 1/2 inch dense foam padding on the outside would reduce a lot of the helmet to helmet injuries.
Why not just wrap them all in bubble wrap and play touch. Then no injurys and the world could be a happy place.
They should eliminate kickoffs, make the players wear bras, and instead of helmets - tin foil hats. Then, substitute a balloon for the football and have all the other players hug, while the player in possession of the balloon runs.
