This will force cable and satellite providers to change their service models, which is good. I like paying once a month for everything I want to watch. The problem with streaming services is constant nickle and dimeing from multiple providers every time you want to watch something. Bandwidth will become a bigger and bigger problem until they run fiber to every single residence.

Whether is is the TV company, the phone company, the internet provider or whoever . . . the first vendor that runs fiber-optic all the way to my house will get all my media business. I like the way some cities are doing it. The city owns the optic network and users have fast, broad access to all vendors.

Yeah, this is an issue. I mean, think about it. I want HBO, ESPN and the local channels and Netflix. That's $30 for basic cable which gets me local news etc without rabbit ears, then $20 for this ESPN thing and I suspect HBO will be $20 too. Add $10 for Netflix and that's $80. I've saved a little, but not as much as I'd hope and I still probably only get one ESPN channel. I want to be down into the $40 to $50 range.

And if you add the providers that charge you 5 or 6 bucks for each movie you download, it can add up to more than we pay right now for Premium service.

Wouldn't we all? But what none of you see is the fees that these stations are charging the cable companies to carry them, and they are increasing exponentially. My boss (I run a TV station that is owned by a family that also owns a local cable company, fyi) shows me the info; some of them ask for increases of 150% or more every contract renewal. The FCC is now even giving local stations the option to charge cable companies within their "must carry" territory, and they are jumping at it. Our company has eaten the increases for the last 3 years, and that won't likely happen this year. Of course, its the cable company that will be portrayed as the big bad evil when the increase is announced.

What I meant was that to cut the cord, I want to be in the $40-$50 range. If I'm only saving $25 or $30 a month, it's not worth the hassle to me.
