Have I ever met a hero? Yes, I have.

I know exactly how you feel, Purple & Gold. I lost my hero 34 years ago. Capt. David Coker was killed in his second tour in Vietnam. Less than a year before the helicopter he piloted was shot down, I helped him raise funds for the Boy Scout troop he had started in Vietnam.

He was a hell of a guy. No one who ever met him will forget him.

Thanks for a great post. Cities and towns across America could obviously take a lesson from Batesville, Mississippi.

Sincere appreciation to the family of this young man for their son's dedication to his country and to each of us, his countrymen.

Respectful condolences to all who knew him. Godspeed.....

What is the price of freedom?
A Marine knows all to well.
It can be just the average hitch,
Or in the bowels of hell.
The cost we know is staggering,
And each man pays his price.
Some with just a few short years,
    Some pay with their life.
Each time I see our flag unfurled,
I thank God I'm standing there.
And know whatever price is paid,
    I willingly paid my share.

Yet another brave young man to guard the streets of heaven. I'm sure the memorial was done with perfection. I may be a little biased, but I feel the way in which we (the Marine Corps) send off our heroes and veterans is extraordinary. Your friend gave his life so that you could continue to live yours as you always have. May he rest in peace and may his family know that we will always be grateful for his sacrifice. Semper Fi.

You are absulutely correct....it was extraordinarily extraordinary! The good people of Batesville were icing on the cake, so to speak....very patriotic.
