How impressive was that hustle play by Ben Watson in the Denver vs New England game? This guy runs down one of the fastest players in football from across the field when everyone else on the team had given up on the play. I realize Champ had pulled up a little at the end, but the fact the Watson was even close to him is deserving of applause. It's got to be one of those plays that makes you proud to have had him play for your school. Congrats UGA.:thumb:
Impressive indeed...also inexcusable. Reminds me of the Don Beebe-Leon Lett play in the Super Bowl. No way in hell that shoulda happened. WTF were the other 10 guys on the field wearing Denver gear doing? They shoulda formed a phalanx around Champ from the 30 on in, not watching him and hoping he'd make it the whole 101 yards. If even one of the 10 showed even 1% of the hustle shown by Ben, then Watson woulda been laid out flat on his back as Champ crossed the goal line.
Champ admitted in post game interviews that he ran out of gas at about the NE 30 and was running on fumes when Watson caught him. If you watch the replays, Champ got a couple of good blocks around midfield that sprung him. Champ's probably the fastest DB in the Bronco's secondary which explains why the other defenders couldn't keep up with him. Props to Watson. He made an incredible defensive play. :thumb: I've seen the replay 50 times and I'm still amazed the zebras didn't rule it a touchback and give the NE the ball on their 20.
Was an awesome play! Me and my friends were all watching the game and laying back watching when........BOOM! All of us stood up and were like "DAMN"! It was awesome...
Great photo of the play in the front section(where they have the two page photos) of SI this week. Shows Champ right after he caught the ball and it points out Watson way on the other side of the field.
yep but that bastard runs the 40 as fast as the fastest wr's and db's as you saw. 4.4 speed at te which is why hes such a mismatch.
champ stopping going full speed and used running out of gas as an excuse... his last 2-3 steps he was almost walking...
Come up to Denver and try to run 100 yards at 6,000'. I'll guarantee you run out of gas before you hit 100 yards. And yes, I know he's a professional athlete and should be used to it.
