saying that they firmly believe he's going to Texas because he and Vincent Young are good friends and that Young told Perrilloux that he was going to the NFL after his junior year. Also said that Perrilloux shouldn't go to Texas if he expects to play immediately. I'm calling Bull Feces on this...Perrilloux will be wearing purple and gold next Fall. :lsug: :geaux:
Sure, Vince Young can declare for the draft after next season...if he wants to be converted to safety or wide receiver or something. If you're passing ability is somewhere close to Michael Vick's yet your running ability isn't, coming out soon isn't really a good career move. They were right about the "not getting playing time" part, though. Spend your true freshman year as a redshirt, the second year as a backup who'll get in once you're up 50 on Baylor...sounds like fun to me (not)!
Nothing says Vince Young won't change his mind either. Athletes change their minds all the time about going pro or not. When he seriously thinks it time he may tell the coaches and the coaches just may inform him he isn't ready, NFL scouts also.
Young is firmly entrenched as the starter and you are correct should stay at UT till his eligibility is up because unless his passing gets better he won't be an NFL caliber QB anytime soon. I still think when you look at Ryan Perrilloux and you see that he's been a numerous LSU practices and all the home games and is the first person the new coach meets with - that points to him being an LSU Tiger in my opinion. Plus, no disrespect to Flynn and Russell but it's not like they've done anything to make Perrilloux think he couldn't come in and compete with them for the job. And it's not like Les Miles is scared of playing a freshman. Donovan Woods, the younger brother of Rashaun, was the Cowboys starting QB and the other QB Robbie Reid was also a freshman.
If JR plays half as well as he did vs. Iowa he will be our QB for the next couple years. Don't give up on JR. He was a top 5 recruit less than 2 seasons ago. Just like Ro, Russell will improve.
Can you imagine how Vick will be one he learns how to read and react properly, throwing the ball accurately as well? If he even sniffs a 60% completion percentage and a decent yds per completion average, he'll truly be unstoppable.
I'm not giving up on him, but somehow I don't think Matt Flynn's play in practice or games strikes fear in JaMarcus' heart. Now signing RP and having a new coach who's willing to play freshmen at that position, well...RP may not be more than a part-time threat for playing time in 2005, but JaMarcus didn't come to LSU to be the full time starter for only one year, I'm sure. Competition, brings out the best in people, they say.
Not giving up on JR by any means... but lets face it, he hasn't separated himself so far ahead that the new staff will just give him the job. JR has a great arm and if he gets hot throws some beautiful passes, but he is very limited mobility wise and needs to learn to throw the touch pass. Perrilloux is an incredible athlete - example in one playoff game this year he scored like six TDs - 3 rushing, 2 passing and one on an interception return while playing DB. What I'm getting at is that I think the starting QB job is wide open because JR and Flynn haven't taken a firm grasp of the job. And because of that Perrilloux should be able to come in and compete right away and that Les Miles isn't afraid of playing a true freshman QB. JR did help his cause considerably with his play in the bowl game and will be the leading candidate heading into Spring.
