I've never touched a bass. Is it a lot different from playing guitar, like the scales positions and stuff?
So bass is more about setting the rhythm. The bass note is the root of the chord. So basically, (BASSically?), the bass is the glue that holds it all together. The bass player is usually the most manly of all the band members. TL;DR Guitar provides chord, bass lets dumb guitar players know they're playing the wrong chord and the drummer that he's outta time
Exactly, want to know what key a song is in, figure out what the bass player is doing and there is your answer
Oh, and BB, strings on a guitar from top to bottom E A D G B E On a bass E A D G 5 string bass B (lower than a regular bass) E A D G
Anybody ever use Ultimate Guitar or any of those sites to look up chords, lyrics and tabs? Since anybody can post their stuff there most of them are flawed: Chord changes in the wrong place, wrong words in the lyrics and I can only guess how off the tabs are. Then I found out about the books from Hal Leonard publishing. The books with the triangle at the top left corner are totally accurate with the tabs, song for song. They are $24.95 at http://halleonard,com but you can find used books on Amazon a lot cheaper. I just got a used Stevie Ray Vaughn book for $1.95 plus shipping. Less than $5 total. I didn't expect the quality of the book to be that good for that cheap but it looks almost new. I just ordered the Albert King book. I got it new for $10.95.
