miles knew about benton visiting auburn a month ago. he didnt decide to do this until last night. didnt benton tell miles he was committing this weekend?
the ugly part about college football is that les doesn't get paid to be a nice guy with integrity. he gets paid to win. all i'm saying is if i was in his position would i take benton knowing i'm going to lose RR?? the fan base isn't as behind miles as you would think. say what you want about the class if we don't get RR it's mcknight all over again but worse actually. miles can't run for governor here yet. another season like last and he'd have for sale signs in his yard, i'm not saying he was right i'm saying he probably did what was best for his job security and many others on here are acting like they would take the high road in miles shoes when in actuality they probably would've done the same thing.
not to say that if everyone else is doing something wrong it makes it right, but recruiting is one dirty business and stuff like this happens at every school. If you want the top guys and championships, every single big time program does this shady stuff whether their fans want to admit it or not. I don't claim to know what all went on with Benton and Miles but this just goes with the territory and College Football is a huge entity and not everything is peaches and sunshine.
at last an honest answer. just next time everyone wants to be so self-righteous about the integrity of their coach les miles as opposed to some UF or bama coach, maybe they should think about it first. Benton was left scrambling with half a day to hope he had a decent school to take him when most schools were already booked. could have easily been odd man out due to lack of our word. which clearly means nothing anymore. even so, he wanted to be an LSU tiger and gave us his word. the fact he struggled with his grades is not the point. if it was, we should have rescinded long before.
Let's get things straight here. I didn't say anything about what I would have done, but since you imply that I would have done the same, I will simply tell you that you are dead wrong. When it come to my integrity, stick to what you know, and not what you suppose. I also suggested "if" it is true about Miles, but also spelled it out as it really appears. You did not see me state anything as a fact, because we just don't know. That aside, if Miles pulled his scholarship the night before NSD, for nothing other than brownie points with the fanbase, then he screwed this kid over. Again, if true, this is the first time I have seen Miles advance his career by walking on the back of a kid. That does not please me at all. If you have found a way to personally make that bitter taste sweet, than more power to you. And as I also said, all other justifications are just that - justifications.
I agree with you tirk and this has bothered me all day. That is what is wrong with the world these days. We seem to take the easy way out. I know some of you have given the dirty business thing to do. But what was the right thing to do. It is a good thing that i am not the Head Coach at LSU because if Rueben Randles dad had pulled that crap on me i would have told him to get the hell out and taken D benton. RR could have gone to OK , Bama, Or Bum FK U for all i care i would not have dealt with blackmail. Because lets be honest that is what it was. It sets a bad precedent and it is the same with Jackson. What these kids and parents are doing is wrong. But that is our society now. Jackson has been committed for 11 months. And on NSD he pulls this tenn crap. College football has turned Schools , families and kids into whores. No one wants to talk about the elephant in the room and that is cheating is rampant in college football and all are doing it just at different levels. Well it is the reason our country is in the shape it is now because Honor, and Charachter are under attack from people that will sell their soul for money. It leaves me with recruiting is a dirty business and how do honest men compete in a world so corrupt. This whole randle business leaves a sour taste in my mouth and i wish i could grab that man and give him a lesson he wouldnt soon forget. Nice lesson for the son. Blackmail to get ahead and get what you want and screw everyone and thing that gets in your way. Orgeron and Randles father deserve each other.
Both parties are wrong here. You don't pull scholarship offers this late, no. But Les was told that he wasn't enrolled in a class that he told Les he was enrolled in -- so the trust was lost on both sides is what I am saying. and for what it's worth, Glen asked him about this on campus and not at the bash.
WINNER! This has also bothered me all day and I didnt want to comment yesterday but well, its now today and worthy of discussion. This is absolute BULLSHIIT. People, we were held over a barrel by a recruits dad and may have sold our soul to the freakin devil for it. Randle knew that Benton was committed for AGES. Why all of a sudden is it "Benton or me"? You cant polish this turd and other schools are going to use it against us when recruiting, you can count on it. Miles hasnt made many recruiting mistakes but he sold out a young man and broke his word at the 11th hour. Im disappointed. I'll not make another post on the subject but I hope this doesnt come back and bite us in the azz.
