According to the AP--------------- Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation. The "DOMINUS JESUS', which riled Protestant and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation." The commentary repeated church teachings that says the Catholic Church "has the fullness of the means of salvation." The document says Christ 'established here on earth' only one church. The other communities "cannot be called 'churches' in the proper sense" because they do not have apostolic succession____the ability to trace their bishops back to Christ's original apostles____and therefore their priestly ordinations are not valid. Despite the harsh tone, the document stressed that Benedict remains committed to ecumenical dialogue.   :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :sob: :sob: :sob:

This is nothing new, but very much taken out of context. Per the Baltimore Catechism: Or in layman's terms. All salvation comes through the Church left us by Jesus. A person must reject what the Church teaches and know what the Church teaches is true to truly forfeit salvation. Dominus Jesus does not say thar protestants cannot obtain salvation. It is my suspicion that a great many protestants, Jews, Muslims, and Hindus have been saved, and all have been saved through the ministry of the Catholic Church.
So what the Bible says is totally irrelevant? If God IS, and Jesus is God, and salvation is obtained only through jesus, can someone remind me AGAIN how people are able to tell other people how God works?
slow it down, lets take it one step at a time. of course. nope please, thats silly. haha! people have faith they know what is best. crazy i know. it is almost as if they are saying things based on no evidence at all!
This is exactly why I have an issue with religion. I'm no atheist, but at the same time, I look at things realistically and scientifically (but that part is another thread that we won't get into here). My big problem is the notion that you HAVE to do certain things in order to go to heaven or attain salvation or whatever. Sorry, I ain't buying it. I don't believe you have to go to church every Sunday to be a good Christian. Interestingly enough, it aggravates the hell out of me that church is always jam packed on Christmas, since everyone who never goes to church feels the need to be a good Christian one day out of the year. Honestly, if you don't go any other Sunday, what's the point of making it at Christmas? But I digress... Bottomline, I do things my way. I was baptized Catholic, but raised Episcopalian, mainly because my father wasn't big on the Catholic teachings. If I want to pray, I pray. I don't feel I need to go to church to do that, nor do I need to go to feel good about myself or feel like I'm doing a good deed (unless it's one of the few times I'm home and Mom wants me to go with her). And I don't think anyone should be in the business of telling a person what they can and can't do in order to get to heaven - if there even is one. I'm not in the business of judging people because they are deeply rooted in religion and have a deep faith in God. That's good to go in my opinion. But they should return the favor when they encounter people who have differing views and begin to preach about what they should and shouldn't be doing. That just bugs the hell out of me.
