See the link. http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2003/Greatest_Teams/Greatest_SEC_Teams.htm I would have added the undefeated 1908 LSU team. Their stats were incredible.
I haven't gone to the link, but one of the best SEC teams I ever saw was one of the Kentucky teams of the late 70s (76-77?). They went nearly undefeated but were on NCAA probation and were ineligible for the SEC title. Bama won it that year, but this Kentucky team was better. Derrick Ramsey at QB. Of course, the reason they were so good was probably also the reason they were on probation...
Was that 1933 LSU team the team that was awarded a national championship? Or was that earlier in history? I remember reading at some point that one LSU team was named national champion. This was before any type of organized poll was established, so the 1958 team is the only officially recognized national championship team.
the 1908 and two teams in the 30s were named national champions by one or more poswer rankins systems. also the 62 team was named ncs by a power ranking system. Like most of Bama's titles these 4 don't count. We have one national championship 1958.
Pastimer, that was the 1977 Kentucky team which also featured DE Art Still. They were a really good team and would've gone unbeaten if it wasn't for a strange non-conference loss to a mediocre Baylor team. I recall them beating a pretty good LSU team quite easily in BR and the LSU players saying they thought Kentucky was better than Alabama when asked to compare the two during post-game interviews after their game with the Tide.
I agree. I was at that Kentucky game. We all thought that LSU would romp. I was shocked by the outcome. If I remember correctly LSU threw a sideline pass that was picked off & run back for a TD.
