It's short, but makes me feel good about our new coach. I'm pretty sick of the negativity that I have seen on this board recently. Having free opinions and good discusions is one thing, but some of the crap that has been posted the past few days makes me sick. Some of you guys act like that we should have landed Bill Bellicheck(sp?). Also it seems like some of you are "waiting" for Miles to fail before he even gets here. It may have been years ago when we hired Saban, but I don't remember everyone liking that hire either. Give this guy a chance and lets see what he can do... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New LSU coach never got deserved recognition By Jenni Carlson The Oklahoman In the event you're struggling to wrap your head around this Miles-to-LSU situation, take heart. Most Oklahomans are right there with you. The reason: Les Miles has been underappreciated in our state. We haven't seen the former Oklahoma State football coach for the high-quality coach that he is. Sure, everyone knows he is a good coach. There has been evidence of that whether you're of the orange or crimson persuasion. See, Bedlam 2001 and 2002. Still, Miles will leave the state not having received just due in the minds of Oklahomans. Part of that is because of the Oklahoma football machine. If you aren't playing for a national championship, the thinking goes, you aren't a very good coach. About 98 percent of coaches would be classified as such if that were the case, but like it or not, what Bob Stoops has done has skewed the image of every coach in America. Miles just happened to be the one working in closest proximity. If you look at what Miles had to work with when he arrived at OSU -- a crumbling stadium and a dilapidated tradition -- what he has accomplished is remarkable. He won at least seven games each of the past three seasons while improving the talent and upgrading the program in every way. OSU has but four winning seasons since 1988. Miles had three of them. The man can coach. Doesn't matter if his address is Stillwater or Baton Rouge. Jenni Carlson: 475-4125, [email protected].
I agree ... Les Miles will be named the Head Coach of LSU at noon today and no amount of complaining will change that. Right or wrong, he's our man! And I'll be one of the first to say that he'll have our Tigers in Atlanta next year playing for the SEC Championship. It's time to step up and give Miles our support and welcome him and his family to TigerTown!
Amen to the sentiments from long-time members of the forum. We're all Tigers, and we all bleed purple and gold. Geaux Coach Miles! Welcome to Baton Rouge.
Well said! The "TRUE" fans will support Miles without having to be proven that he will succeed! Welcome to Baton Rouge, Coach Miles!!! Pay no attention to the nay-sayers at this point! They're just sore right now....
Interesting how Miles started a players "walk" to their stadium while at OSU. He should get a kick out of the respect and enthusiasm that Tiger fans show our players on their "Walk down victory hill"....
Let's support our new coach. It's time to move on and not dwell on the past. We've had a great run the past five years and there's no reason to think it won't continue. Geaux Tigers!!!
Well, that's true, the part about him getting LSU to Atlanta next year. Keep in mind, though, that Mike Archer went 10-1-1 in his first year, too. Very good to know Les can recruit as well as coach. After my first, quite negative, reaction to the news, I'll wish for the very best. When push comes to shove, all we really want are wins.
Mike Archer was very young and had never been a head coach. There is a distinct difference in experience.
Les Miles record of 28-21 is not much different from Sabans at Michigan State. From 95 to 99, Saban was 34-24-1. Take away 1999 season and Saban was 25-22-1 as the Head Coach. Saban turned out to be a very good coach for LSU, but his numbers were not that great while at MSU. Saban found a gold mine at LSU. If Les Miles was following the previous two coaches, I don't think LSU fans would be really upset right now. I just hope he decides to get a better defensive cordinator. Les is our man now and we need to stick behind him. He is no Nick Saban but sure hope he can keep us on the winning track. Les is stepping into a nice job especially with all the upgrades to the football facilities. LSUDAN
