I think most of the people in this thread referring to the Miami (OH) game are referring to the 1986 game where LSU was returning a great team and lost to Miami (OH) at home 21-12. As for your question, yes I knew who Roethlisberger was and also knew he was going to be a good one.
I was there. Was likely the most miserable game I ever sat through, but I did it. Only high-point was I bought tickets the day of the game and still managed to get seated about mid-ways up in the lower level 45 yard line (East)....
I would've been there in the student section, but my bad knee went out on me while dancing at "Heartbreak" (before the Gold Club days, remember?) the previous Thursday night, so I watched it from my parents' house. I had been SO mad that I couldn't go before the game started, then I was happy I was 45 miles away...
I was there. I was a student at LSU at the time. My fraternity's Miami chapter came to town, parked their RV in front of our house and tore the house up after the game. (but not before one of our boys could trash their RV). That was an ass-whipping of epic proportions.
I was. Eight at the time. At of all the games I went to when I was younger, I dont know why but I still remember that game.
Yep, surely they were referring to the 12-21 debacle. I had not heard of Roethlisberger until reading about him in the Advocate in the days leading up to the game a few years ago, which I attended. I can remember telling my buddy, who attended the game with me (also from here in Houston) that I had read that Miami-Ohio had a really good QB that we should be concerned about. As I recall, though, the Tigers didn't allow him to do much.
That Miami butt kicking was the second worst I have ever seen LSU take, and unfortunately, I had to watch all of it. Being in Tiger Band can do that to you. The only fun was doing the "Hawaii Five-O dance" in that monsoon. There wasn't much traffic after the game, if I recall. The most rediculous part was OT Ruffin Rodrigue saying after the game that LSU O-line had actually played better than Miami--what game was he watching? (the worst butt-whipping has to be the 30-3 loss at Arkansas in 92. Rain, astroturf, ESPN, and Curley Hallman--should have seen it coming. Fortunately, neither will be on ESPN Classic.) What a great OOC schedule that 88 team had: aTm, Miami, @ TOSU, & Tulane. Won't see one like that any time soon. GEAUX TIGERS
I was living in Charleston, SC at the time working at the shipyard. Listened to the game at work. Almost throw the radio off the pier.
