Shaq is the Main Man for living LSU Basketball Alumni, and one of the greatest LSU Alums ever. Do you think Shaq could beat up Saban?
Shaq still showing his LSU pride in this recent article about the tournament. Inside the Miami Heat's locker room. A few minutes until warmups for the Heat's Monday night game against the Milwaukee Bucks: Reporter: ``Mr. [Shaquille] O'Neal: Do you mind filling out an NCAA tournament bracket for The Herald? We want to run your picks side-by-side with [Herald sports columnist Dan] Le Batard's.'' O'Neal: ``I'll get my boy to fill it out.'' Reporter: ``But it's got to be in your hand.'' O'Neal, sitting to the left of teammate Michael Dolec: ``What is this: the FBI? OK. Six minutes? I got this.'' It takes O'Neal 10 minutes to fill out an NCAA tournament bracket, but quicker than Dwyane Wade's first step, O'Neal scribbles LSU all the way to the Final Four. ''Who you think I'm going with, baby?'' O'Neal said. ``I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm going with LSU.'' O'Neal, a first team All-American in both his sophomore and junior seasons, played in three NCAA tournaments with the Tigers before taking his game to the NBA. O'Neal's Tigers never made it past the second round. His bracket flies in the face of every office pool in America. O'Neal picks zero No. 1 seeds to make the Final Four in St. Louis. ''Just make sure people know that I don't bet on games,'' O'Neal said. QUICK PICKS O'Neal's bracket needs no disclaimer. There is no place for logic here. None needed. He fills out his bracket carefully, though, but on gut instinct. ''Whoops, can't misspell Oklahoma if this is going in the newspaper,'' he said. O'Neal's Final Four: Kansas, a No. 3 seed in the Syracuse Regional; Syracuse, the fourth seed in the Austin Regional; Louisville, the fourth seed in the Albuquerque Regional and, of course, LSU, a sixth seed in the Chicago Regional. The big man's national championship final is a long shot: Kansas beating Louisville. ''I like Kansas,'' O'Neal said. ``They started the season off terrible.'' All told, O'Neal pens 16 upsets, including six are-you-kidding-me picks in the eight-game regional semifinals and three shockers in the four-game regional finals. Perhaps the biggest upset of all is Florida, a fourth seed, beating top-seeded North Carolina in the round of 16. O'Neal says he likes Florida's curly-haired Matt Walsh. Much to his chagrin, O'Neal picks Alabama (5) to beat Illinois (1) in the Sweet 16. Said O'Neal: ``Alabama! Jeez, Alabama! Illinois has been playing too hot all season. I think they're due for a loss.'' Without hesitation, O'Neal writes Gonzaga (3) past Wake Forest (2) and into the Elite Eight. ''I like the ugly dude at Gonzaga,'' O'Neal said. ``What's his name, Turiaf?'' O'Neal picks Syracuse (4) to topple Duke (1), but not because he likes Syracuse. ''I don't like Duke,'' O'Neal said. ``I mean: I do like Duke, but not the way they rely on J.J. Redick.'' O'Neal's Southeastern Conference slant shows in the Elite Eight. For the record, O'Neal has four schools -- LSU, Alabama, Florida and Kentucky -- from the SEC playing in the regional finals. Compare that with two schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference -- Wake Forest and North Carolina -- and it's easy to see where O'Neal's allegiances fall. ''I can be biased,'' O'Neal said.
