in today's Advocate. Looks like JR will be ready for spring drills & JV by fall camp. Good luck to both.

LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell and tailback Justin Vincent are both recuperating from surgeries to correct football injuries.

Russell had surgery on his right (throwing) wrist shortly after the New Year, LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said Thursday. Vincent suffered an ACL tear in his right knee and underwent surgery Wednesday, Bonnette said.

Vincent was operated on by LSU team orthopedist Dr. Brent Bankston.

Russell is expected to be ready for the start of spring practice in early March, Bonnette said. Vincent will be ready, too, but not until the start of fall practice in August.

“There were no surprises,” Bonnette said of the surgeries. “They are expected to make a full recovery.”

Russell injured his wrist Oct. 15 in a 21-17 win over Florida but played the rest of the season until suffering a separated left shoulder in a 34-14 loss to Georgia in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.

The shoulder separation was not severe enough to require surgery.

LSU coaches said Russell didn’t make the return trip to Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl because he was recovering from the shoulder injury and preparing for his wrist surgery. He stayed in Baton Rouge while Matt Flynn quarterbacked the Tigers to a 40-3 rout of Miami.

Vincent was injured in the first half of the SEC Championship Game and didn’t return in the second half. He too sat out the Peach Bowl.

Russell started LSU’s first 12 games, completing 188 of 311 passes for 2,443 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Vincent was LSU’s second-leading ball carrier with 488 yards and five touchdowns rushing on 121 attempts.
