Although his analogy is stupid, at least he takes a shot at Ooh La La as well:

If anything, this clown should have said "the Swamp", given Florida's lost 6 home games in the past three years... and I think EA sports has the swamp listed as the toughest stadium (must be based on some old Spurrier data).

As an outsider to LSU, but a fan of the game, there has always been a mystique about Death Valley that other schools simply don't have. I think it has something to do with playing a lot of night games over the years, exposing a lot of fans nationally who were half in the bag to a setting where the fans at the game were half in the bag, too.

I will tell you from first hand knowledge that the most overrated "toughest stadium" is Michigan. Even though it holds 105,000, it doesn't hold noise well. The team might be tough, but the crowd noise is hardly deafening.

I've never been on the field in Tiger Stadium, but, I've been told that you can feel the wind shift when the crowd gets loud. I sit in the South endzone and have been made temporarily deaf before. I couldn't hear a thing, except the ringing. In my old age, I now take a couple of asprin right before every game. A friend of mine, who played at LSU, said it was the most amazing thing he has ever experienced. According to him, it has alot to do with the way the stadium is constructed.

It is truly awesome when Death Valley is rocking. Last years game against Oregon State was one of those times when the Valley was off its rocker. When Russel completed the pass to I believe it was Bowe? to tie the game, that place was going ape ****. Then Dan Borne yells " It's officially Saturday Night IN Death Valley!!"That was a great moment. I havent been to many other stadiums so I dont think its fair for me to say it is the greatest home field advantage. I know from my own experience that it is incredible to be part of it. Especially when the Golden Band strikes it up when the players run out and the place goes banana's. You have to remember that not everyone is going to think that your stadium or your team is best. Thats just something you have to live with. Whats one guy out of 6,000,000,000,0000000000 in the world? As someone whose known as a knock around guy when it comes to LSU, I'll tell you first hand that it is one of the best experiences in sports to go to Tiger Stadium on Saturday Night. I've been to MLB games and NFL games and NBA games, but there is something different about college football fans. I do have to say though that the crowd at Busch Stadium in baseball is like the MLB equivilent to Tiger Fans in CFB.

Just a question... but how long has Tiger Stadium been known as Death Valley? (seems like forever)

I know Michigan's "Big House" was named by ABC's Keith Jackson back in the '80's... and didn't the Swamp get named during Spurrier's time there? It just seems to my old brain that Death Valley (the real one) is the oldest nicknamed stadium around.

    End of 1991 Season
Head Coach Steve Spurrier tags Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field "The Swamp"... Spurrier says, "The swamp is where Gators live. We feel comfortable there, but we hope our opponents feel tentative. A swamp is hot and sticky and can be dangerous."

ULL has had "The Swamp" since the 70's.. so theirs is the original.. heh.. hardly intimidating though...

This guy obviously has somethign against Louisiana.. the LSU reference I guess is understandable because of the SEC.. but why the ULL reference? couldnt he use FIU, or FAU or something? Not really defending ULL there, just funny that he would use two Louisiana schools...

Maybe he elected to go with the school with the worst Division One football record* over the past 5 years or so.

*of those Division one schools who actually think there's a chance to have a decent team someday. :hihi:

By the way, we can thank DiNardo and Hallman for the fact that statistics don't back up the "toughest place to play" label. For several years there, we weren't even competitive. Take away those years and Tiger Stadium is the toughest place to play. Wins and losses aren't necessarily the measuring stick. Other teams' and coaches' opinions are and if you ask them, even if they win, it wasn't easy.
