Gov. Blanco's husband is the main one pushing ULL as "THE" University of Louisiana. Everything they print and say says "The University of Louisiana". No Lafayette anywhere. I went to NLU, now ULMonroe. We never thought as ourselves to be anything more than what we were. Some of the biggest Tiger fans I know went to NLU, ULM, or whatever you want to call it. I think they teach a class at ULL that tells you how to hate the Tigers. Don't believe me....look at the baseball series against LSU a few years ago, or all the smack they talked before the football game a couple years ago. ULL is still the only team to start a fight in Omaha. That's wonderful. Go UNO Privateers!
USL fans have some issues, no doubt about that. Call it an inferiority complex or whatever. But I'm from Lafayette and a blue blooded cajun, how can i not root for them? --against anyone but the Fightin' Tigers that is. They should realize that it's better for them to be called "@ Lafayette." The country actually knows there is a Lafayette now. The only other time the city gets press is every 10 years when a big hurricane comes.
I agree with TigerStagg and gotskeeters. ULL is screwed up, but they do have a pretty good Basketball and Baseball team. I like ULL too because Jake Delhomme played there. Those are my only reasons I like ULL.
I'm like most LSU fans, I cheer for any other state school to do well. ULL has a problem. They think all the other schools in the state are out to get them and seem to have no state pride. They seem to always hope for other state institutions to do poorly. I don't understand all that envy from that school.
I'm from Lafayette also and have a sorta like/hate (couldn't say love) relationship with USL. I'm a big Delhomme and Brian Mitchell fan and have sincerely rooted for them in the past. However, some of their fans just make it hard to cheer for them. I have checked out the link for the ULL message board(Delphiforums?) that Tigerforums has and every single thread ended up bashing LSU. There was even one about a tragic motorcycle accident on Johnston street that ended up in an anti-LSU free for all. All of the whining about the Adver"tiger", calling us "State" or "lsu a&m @ br" and all that crap just gets old. I've got a ULL grad and fan coming over tonight to watch the game and I'll root for the Cajuns again. But if they lose, I won't miss a wink of sleep. Lafayette, like every other town in LA, has an abudance of LSU fans. The recent success of the football program also brings out many bandwagon fans. That's a fact and trying to boycott businesses or retail stores for being pro-LSU in Lafayette just makes them look petty. To leave on a more postive note, Long live the Cajun Chicken!!!
