http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200990329008 I don't care for the Hummer brand. Not really a "green" issue for me, I just think that the Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban/Denali are plenty of SUV's for one company.
I don't like the massed produced hummers (H2, H3 et al) but I would like for them to make the H1's and sell them as the badass vehicles that they are and at the price point they deserve.
The Hummer never was a good idea. I never see one off road anywhere, just chromed up and shiny in some city boy's driveway. What off-roaders really wanted was a street-legal Humvee, but the military won't allow it for various reasons. The Hummer that emerged on the market never approached a real Humvee in capability and was way . . . too . . . expensive. Let it join Studebaker, Rambler, Edsel, and Delorean on the scrapheap.
Agree with all 4 previous posts. Let the marketplace do the work. If Hummer isn't selling, let it go.
I don't think Buick will go anywhere because it is such a popular brand internationally. The Chinese love Buicks. I must say I am rather fond of mine.
While I agree from a purely economic standpoint, I can't help but wonder if Pontiac could survive as a smaller, nice market brand on the high performance side of things. Once GM went to the "cookie cutter" format in the '80s, it really eliminated any distinction between the different marks, other than maybe trim levels. On that note, I'm surprised Mercury hasn't completely disappeared from Ford yet.
