Why not get Shreveport set up for emergency relief and start taking people there. Shreveport has many hospitals. It has the ability to provide areas for temporary tent cities. A chance for North Louisiana to show South Louisiana we care and we can help.
I just got off the phone with my mom in Shreveport. She said she went to the grocery store to get toilet paper, diapers, and anything else she could think of to take to the shelters at Hirsch and LSUS. She said the store was full of fellow Shreveporters doing the same thing. For all the flack that my hometown tends to take, it is essentially a good place with good people and they will bend over backwards to help out those in need in times like these. joe t.
LSUS, Hirsh Coliseum, Centenary Gold Dome & numerous local churches are all housing victims of Katrina. LSU Hospital, Christus Schumpert & Willis Knighton are all taking on extra patients from South Louisiana. Every possible resource in the state is being utilized right now(it's just not enough because of the magnitude of this disaster).
I'm in Ca. so there is a young family staying in my house in Shreveport. It was something that was easy enough to do. I was told they were in a barn in Mississippi. People every where will do what it takes to make this better for those that are in need now.
