What is that tune the UGA band plays all the time - its either "I've Been Working On the Railroad" or "Glory Glory Hallelujia". I can't tell which. It sounds like both. Anybody know? Just curious.
Its Glory Glory Hallelujia. Auburn also plays that song too. Texas plays I've Been Working on the Railroad.
It sounded to me like "I've Been Working On the Railroad" It does also sound somewhat like "Glory Glory Halleluja," now that you mention it. It also sounds like the tune that the Texas longhorns play. Hearing it really reinforced how much I like what the Golden Band from Tigerland plays. I haven't made it to a college football game in a stadium other than Tiger Stadium in quite some time. But, it seems to me that the way that the band and crowd interact is a huge part of what makes LSU so special, in terms of game atmosphere, etc. You know what I mean? The first down song, in which the crowd chants "Geaux Tigers" and "LSU!" The second down song, where the chant is "LSU!" The Bandits music with the chant of "LSU" at the end when the defense stops the other team. The post touchdown spelling out of "Tigers" as the team lines up for the PAT. Do many (any?) other schools have this type of band/fans coordination, etc? I've been curious about that for a while. I know FSU does their little indian chant/hum thing to the band while doing the tomahawk chop thing, which may be cool, but gets very old and monotonous. I'd love to hear about what other schools do and how y'all think it compares to LSU.
Many do have something they play when the defense converts, like our Chinese Bandits theme. The common ones I hear are the tune from Star Wars (Imperial stormtroopers) and "Mars" from Holst's "Planets". Both of these tunes sound really good but since so many schools copy it now it is overdone and unoriginal.
I know that, but the question I have relates to "audience participation." Hearing 90,000 people scream "LSU" or "Geaux Tigers" in unison is, IMO, much more energizing than just hearing a band play - especially if it some overused and unoriginal song!
The only other song that I can think of that gets a lot of crowd participation is Tennesee's "Rocky Top".
Yes, Red, I know that! I like to give my shorthorn buddies here in Texas a hard time about that "working on the railroad song!"
