"Only two of 30 nations, Mexico and Turkey, are ahead of the United States for income inequality and poverty rates, or the gap between rich and poor, according to a report released Tuesday." good job, only two more spots til we're #1. :thumb::usaflagwa http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7012734983
In America, the average income of the richest 10 percent of people is $93,000. When compared to purchasing power parity, it is the highest in the OECD when compared with the average of $54,000 for OECD nations. So, basically, the richest 10% in the other countries in this report make $40,000 less a year than the richest 10% in the US. Therefore, the gap between their top 10% and bottom 10% is far less than ours. Their bottom 10% is not much "wealthier" than ours, as another paragraph pointed out. It went on to mention that in Scandinavia, the gap is very small because of the distribution of wealth. Socialism?
I love this statement. "Social mobility is lower" in the US. That's such a crock. It's lower for people who don't want to do anything. It's higher than almost every country in the world if you're willing to work for it. I don't care how dumb, broke, stupid, or down on your luck that you are, how poor your upbringing was, or how difficult a life you've had, anyone can make more than $5,800/year. It's not that these people don't have opportunity, they want everything handed to them and soon enough it will be.
Free public schools. Free libraries. Large numbers of full-ride scholarships for both academic aces and those who're trying really hard but not quite competing (read minorities). Hiring quotas. Governmental contract preferences. There - I've laid out the road from "poor" to "rich". Just takes a little discipline, a little luck, and a lot of hard work. As for the title of this thread, I say "GOOD!" That means hard work and discipline are paying off even better these days.
