On Oct. 10, 1936, former LSU athletic trainer Mike Chambers, financed by a 25-cent-per-student donation, purchased a baby Bengal tiger named Sheik from the Little Rock Zoo. Eleven days later, Sheik became the first live mascot of LSU. Link To Original Article
