Wow, a player looses game time for missing summer classes. How does this balance with being arrested by the law? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...07/08/23/southcarolina.mitchell.ap/index.html
i think its hilarious that they have to go to class. what's more hilarious it that mitchell is appealing the suspension. has the ole ball coach allowed player unions to form?
Okay, help me out here. Spurrier suspends his starting QB for 1st game for missing classes. Saban says his punishment for players is an internal matter and does not favor players missing game time. Now Weis has to deal with his star QB being arrested and it sounds like he won't miss any game time. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...eview/2007/08/23/notre.dame.qbs.ap/index.html It sounds like punishment for players breaking the rules is all over the place. Isn't game time punishment the ultimate penalty? How do you balance missing classes with breaking the law?
The ultimate penalty? No. A player being booted off the team would be the ultimate penalty in my book. What's failed to be addressed here is there is a difference in punishment and discipline. It's the same manner (how Saban is handling this) that he's used in all of his past coaching positions. I personally agree with the mindset. Punishment often leads to a resentful attitude. Discipline, on the other hand, tends to lend better results. As to Mitchell, it is also important to note this isn't his first rodeo with claass issues not to mention his bar fight which landed him on the bench last season. I'd be willing to bet we'll hear stories of Garcia getting in trouble again as well.
Good reason you haven't heard of him. He's a linebacker from Florida that Saban KICKED OFF (meaning he sat him out of EVERY LSU game) of the LSU team for violating team rules. Thus Saban has a track record of booting players off of a team. Don't know if the particular situation being discussed warrants this but trust me, lil nicky knows how to kick a player off of a team and otherwise discipline them. The heat is on him to win and he is feeling it.
