KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Injured Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge practiced again Thursday, but coach Phillip Fulmer was vague about how much the starter would be able to play against No. 13 LSU on Saturday.

Ainge sprained his right ankle in last week's game at South Carolina and has been limited in practice. His backup, Jonathan Crompton, a redshirt freshman, has been used sparingly this season but has been preparing to play if necessary.

The No. 8 Volunteers face one of the toughest defenses in Division I-A this weekend.

    .....

As i head out of here for my 7 hour drive to Knoxville, I will leave you guys with the excuse from all TN fans after they get squashed down to being ranked outside the top 20!!!

I hope he plays the entire game. Otherwise, I'll have to hear excuses from the vol faithful after we kick that arse!

DownOnTheBayou said he ate a restaurant whose owner was a big time Vol fan and told him that Ainge hadn't practiced all week- before yesterday. I did read last night where he practiced yesterday (the owner wouldn't have known that because DownOTBayou talked to him before yesterday's practice.

From the way Fulmer talked in the article yesterday, plugging the backup, I got the impression Ainge's playing time was questionable, but a good coach would keep everyone off balance on a situation like that.

I'm with TN Tiger, I hope he plays the entire game, I want their best shot. We are a better team and I'm not scared if we play ball like we have at times this year- I want to see it in the "Big Game". :thumb:

How's that song go? "Don't cry for me"

If Ainge can't play we'll just have to beat you with our back-up QB, just like we did last season; and just like you did to us in the 2001 SECCG.

I hope he doesn't play if he is hurt. I have a feeling if he goes in for too long he will get knocked out of the game pretty fast. I am sure the LSU DL is hoping that a banged up QB steps in.

I dont like to see players get injured. Watch out for Big Glenn Dorsey landing that big body on that leg.

I agree with you, if Ainge is having a lot of difficulty moving around he will only become an easy target, and could get injured more seriously. However, I'm sure Fulmer and Cut are also worried about how a freshman QB like Crompton will react to the heavy pressure he will surely see if he steps onto the field.
