Recall the aphorism, "It's always funny as long as long as it happens to someone else."? "The BCS is what it is and I am a company man. The champion will come from tomorrow night's game". -- Frank Beamer 1-03-2005 With Beamer potentially in the same situation as Tubs last year, it is good to see a man stick to his guns. Don't you just love it when someone is principled enough to weather adverse situations with their integrity in tact.:thumb: On wait, now Beamer has a different take on the situation. :nope: :nope: :nope: http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/uga/1105/01bcs.html "If the champion of our league is 12-0 and has no shot at winning a national championship, then we have to find a way to get more than two teams involved," Beamer told the Journal-Constitution. ... "Again, I'm not knocking any other team. I believe that what you do on the field should speak for itself," Beamer said. "But if we don't get in the mix after winning all those games, it's time to start looking at the system." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/01/AR2005110101494.html BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 1 -- With his Hokies third in the Bowl Championship Series ratings, Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer is starting to say a lot of the same things Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville said a year ago. For the first time this season, Beamer on Tuesday said he believes college football might be better off using a plus-one system to determine its national championship. Under that scenario, the top four teams in the BCS standings would play in two bowl games, and then the winners would meet in a championship game. Of course ESPN is still restricts itself to just reporting facts, not providing editorials that could in anyway influence voter: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=9632 Brad Edwards: For starters, let me say that Texas moving to No. 1 in the BCS Standings isn't as big of a news item as it's being made out to be. Just like last week, there is still a huge gap between No. 2 and No. 3 in the standings, and those are the positions that really matter. Who cares whether Texas or USC is ranked No. 1? If they both run the table, they'll decide it on the field in the Rose Bowl.
I agree. However, at this point I will be happy to see either USC, Texas, or VA Tech get screwed out of the championship game. Can't decide which one I want to see sit out the most.
My dream scenario would be for Texas to get left out and for Va. Tech to beat USC in the Rose Bowl!!! :thumb:
Cant stand with ya there. I hope they get left out and the east coast media will then eat its young and go on the playoff rampage. Its ok if it happens to an SEC team. But let it happen to a Notre Dame or an east coast team and there will be changes my friend. Damn i am starting to sound like Corso !!! Tubby help me. I am suffering from ESPN mind control.
wow... GREAT point... could you just see it now? "Notre Dame undefeated, left out of championship game!" I guarantee you that changes would be made, and in a hurry...
Amazing how this dumbass system creates a "pimp of the year" every damned year. Carroll in '03, co-pimps of the year Mack Brown and BigEars in '04, and looks like Beamer better be donning the superfly coat and gassin' up the sled with the diamond in the back for '05. Friggin' pitiful. :dis:
