just hit his first major league home run for the cubs vs the braves it was a bomb too... he absolutely crushed it he's got a triple tonight too LSU! LSU! he was one of my favorites and from here too
Yeah! It's about time we start seeing some more former Tigers in the spotlight. Too bad Fontenot's stint with the big leauge club will likely be another short trip as he's expected to return to AAA Iowa once Cliff Floyd returns. ...but I'm sure he'll be back before too long. You know, in all honesty, with the dominance that the LSU baseball program had in the '90's, I would have expected to see more All-Star caliber players in MLB. For a long time, Albert Belle was carrying the torch as a true DOMINANT former Tiger. Ben McDonald started off strong but fizzled... Todd Walker has been a good, productive player--too bad the Twins wasted a year or two off his playing time by not giving him enough credit as a defensive player and platooned him a lot...he really didn't get a chance to be a full-time starter until he got to Cincy in '02 and Boston in '03...and now he gets "shafted" by the A's and was released.... Paul Byrd is having a good career, but nothing special. Aaron Hill and Brad Hawpe have shown flashes of stardum, but I don't think either one will be All-Stars (perhaps Hill has the best shot since the 2B position isn't as deep as OF). Cresse?? Zeringe (sp?)? Hard to believe that those two are STILL in AA ball....
yeah, well you have to remember that college baseball for the most part isn't a collection of incredibly talented players... most of the elite high school players go straight to pro ball, so the college success rate isn't incredibly high aaron hill is doing incredibly with toronto and brad cresse is having a great year in colorado... I think had lane mestepay not been injured in college, he would have been a great pro
Bonds ASU Helton Tenn. JD Drew FSU just to name a few....yes, the draft does take some high school talent...but the college ranks doesn't exactly translate into Bush leauge baseball....
I wasn't implying that no good players went to college... what I was saying is that unless the player has a special interest in going to school... he won't be in college... and although I like and respect all three of those guys... for every 3 you can name you can probly name 25 that didn't go to college
he was on fire again yesterday... he's making the best of his shot with the cubs, and lou pinella said he likes the fact that he's aggressive at the plate
Whatever happened to Brandon Larson? His season in '97 (41 bombs) was one of the best in college baseball history
the cubs are a pretty good minor league team. was with the reds taking time from jason williams once upon a time. then jw retired and larson kept battling injuries. i think the nats signed him in the spring but its likely hes not playing and his career is over in baseball.
